Getting around "unable to establish an internet connection" on a *manual* account (using Q Win 2013)
I have a couple transaction files I downloaded from my bank (I've done QFX, OFX, and CSV). I've created a manual account since Quicken can't pull information on my bank. Thing is, I don't WANT it to pull the information, I already have the import files locally, and my bank has merged and renamed itself over the past few years.
How do I tell Quicken to NOT try pulling down information, and just import the file(s) as they are? I'm trying to set up a new file for a different account (needs to be kept separate from my existing one).
I've tried this with fresh installs of QW2013 under MSWin10, MSWin7, and Crossover Office. And don't talk about newer versions of Quicken, the newer versions don't provide me with any new features I need, don't need the "online" features either. And since the basic version of the current releases won't let me use my existing data files (they require you to start from scratch) I refuse to buy the expensive and overpriced "Deluxe" version for even more features I don't need or want.

@SenileOtaku - You mentioned that you don't want the online features but if you have been manually importing QFX files from your financial institutions that is exactly what you have been doing….using an online services feature which makes that account an online services account, not a manual account.
If you are running QWin 2013 and have (until recently) been able to manually import QFX files then you have been incredibly fortunate because importing of QFX files should have been blocked starting in early (Mar/Apr) 2016 when the online services license expired.
So, I am pretty confident that trying to manually import QFX files is what is causing that "unable to establish an internet connection" error message. This is because importing a QFX file into Quicken will prompt it to check the status of the import license and the validity of the financial institution ID that is listed in the QFX file. I have heard of this sometimes happening with some other expired editions of Quicken but never so far back as with QW2013 before. So, if this is what is now happening, then you previously had been very, very fortunate to be able to import QFX files.
Perhaps what triggered the issue for you is when you did the 1st fresh install of QW2013. That would have overwritten whatever error was allowing you to continue importing QFX files into Quicken instead of blocking that process.
Anyway, you will not be able to get around that block of QFX file imports without subscribing to Quicken Classic. Since QW2013 no longer supports importing QFX files the Internet connection that is required is now being blocked
However you should still be able to import OFX, QIF and CSV files since they are not proprietary formats. However, you might need to use a file conversion program that will convert those files into a QIF formatted file that Quicken can import. There is a good, adware-free conversion program called ImportQIF that can be downloaded from and read up on at
. It was developed and is still maintained by a long-time Quicken user who is very active in this Community. I have not used it myself but many (including some Super Users) have posted that it works quite well. And since the basic version of the current releases won't let me use my existing data files (they require you to start from scratch)….
The Quicken Classic subscription software is absolutely able to open, convert and use your existing QW2013 data file. Starting from scratch is not a requirement. After installing Quicken Classic It will default to starting a new file from scratch but all you need to do is to cancel that process and then go to File > Open Quicken File > maneuver to where you have that existing data file saved and select it. Just thought I'd mention this in case you ever do decide to upgrade from QW2013.

I hadn't been using QFX previously, I already had an account that I started way back in the Quicken/DOS v2.0 days (yes, that long ago, even if I have archived off some earlier years). What I was trying to do was test out QW13 for a completely different, entirely new account. I'm not at all interested in subscribing to some online service; I have software locally, already bought the software and many updates over the years, and I ALSO don't want to be pushing my data to some questionable, hackable upstream service, one that can decide to hold my data hostage at any time they please.
But as far as my testing have gone thus far, I may not need to use Quicken anyway. Grisbi and/or Homebank look like they'll work adequately. There's some re-learning involved, and I'd like some more flexibility in the UI, but I can deal with that. And besides, Grisbi and Homebank are native applications, I don't have to run them under Crossover Office. I mainly wanted to use QW13 since I already needed to use it to do annual tax returns for some jointly-owned property, and it would have been handy to use the same tool.

What installation media did you use for installing your Q Win 2013?
- An original 2013 CD
- A downloaded Quicken_deluxe_2013.exe from some source
- The fully patched 2013 Deluxe installation file from https://assistant.quicken.com/patch/ASDES5672FR13/Old_Products/QWIN/QW2013DLX.exe
- Something else?
Start Q 2013 and click on Help / About Quicken
Does the Release number show "2013 Release R12"?If it doesn't, download and install the 2013 Mondo Patch file for Release 12 from Quicken 2013 Patches - QuicknPerlWiz on top of your less-than-R12 installation. See if that helps

FYI: There is nothing about the Quicken Classic subscription service nor about the software that requires one to push their financial data to any upstream service or Cloud. One can opt into some online services that will do this but it is purely optional. If one does not opt into those services, then the data remains secure on the local hard drive.
