Can't connect my Bank of America accounts

I have not been able to connect my Bank of America accounts no matter what I try. I'm not trying to reathorize them, I need to add online services to them. I get to the sign on page, sign in to BoA on the web and then get this error:

I believe it is because Quicken is not using EWC+ to try to connect and I can't figure out how to force it. Any suggestions appreciated.

Rest assured that Quicken is using EWC+ with every financial institution that supports it. Quicken has no control over which connection method to use or not use. That is controlled by the setup instructions provided by the aggregator (Intuit) and Intuit works that out with the financial institutions.

There are, however, some browser extensions that block the EWC+ authorization/reauthorization process. The EWC+ setup process starts but then it locks up and never completes. It seems that most of the problematic extensions are security and privacy extensions but some have posted that some problematic extensions do not fall into that category.

You might want to try doing what I and others have done to eliminate this issue.:

    1. Go to your browser Settings and click on Extensions
    2. Disable ALL of your browser extensions.
    3. In Quicken, do Add Account and go through and complete the EWC+ setup process.
    4. After your accounts have been added to and set up in Quicken you can enable the browser extensions, again.

Since I started doing this last Mar/Apr I have had absolutely no EWC+ connection setup issues. Many who have also followed this process have posted that it works well for them, too.

Hopefully this will resolve the issue for you. Please post the results back here.

    Hello @Bob1612,

If the steps that @Boatnmaniac provided do not correct the issue, then please backup your Quicken file, deactivate your Bank of America accounts, then go to Tools>Add Account and follow the prompts, making sure to carefully relink the accounts to the correct nicknames in Quicken.

Please let me know how it goes!

Thank you both for your responses. Neither method worked. I used Microsoft edge with no extensions and Chrome with no extensions and got the same error. I get all the way through with the login at Bank of America and it says my accounts have been authorized but Quicken still gives that error. I don't think it is on the BoA end, it completes the task there. Any other suggestions? @Quicken Kristina @Boatnmaniac

There is something in your system that is blocking BOA from completing the authorization/reauthorization process with Quicken. The symptoms you describe is very typical of this issue….authorization is completed on the financial institution's website but that authorization/token is not getting back to Quicken.

Is your browser set to block popups and/or cookies? If so, try whitelisting/allowing/making exception for the BOA website.

Do you have other anti-malware software set to block popups and/or cookies? If so, try whitelisting/allowing them for the BOA website or temporarily disabling the software.

Do you have your browser(s) Privacy & Security setting set to Strict? If so, this can break some websites. Try using the Standard setting.

Then, with the browser extensions disabled, try doing Add Account, again.

@Boatnmaniac Thanks for all the help. Still the same error. I agree for some reason Quicken is not getting the hand off from BoA. I whitelisted the site, allowed popups and turned off my firewall, still no luck. My privacy & security is set to normal not strict.

Sorry it did not work for you. Most people I have suggested this process to have said it worked well for them.

But I just noticed something: In the picture you attached in your first post it shows you tried to set up the connection with Bank of American - Quicken. Each Add Account financial institution in Quicken has a specific function and works with specific types of accounts but perhaps not with all types of accounts. So, maybe this financial institution is not the right one for your BOA accounts?

In Add Account, if you type in Bank of America in the search field, you will see the following BOA options:

Have you tried setting up your accounts with Bank of America-All Other States? I've seen posts by other that this is the only one they were able to connect with.

Or, if one or more of your accounts are BOA credit cards, maybe try Bank of America Credit Card?

Or, maybe try using Bank of America-Wealth Management for investment accounts?

Or, if you have some retail accounts: Type in BOA into the Add Account search field and you will see a fairly large number of retail BOA cards and some other investments options. (It's a fairly long list so scroll down if you don't see yours.)
