Why is the password to my Password Vault suddenly not working?

I have Windows 11 Home Version R60.15 and the name of the bank is Community Bank of the South

Starting about a week ago I entered the Password Vault password, and I get the message, "password entered does not match the stored vault password", this is the same password I have been using successfully all along.

I sat up a new Password Vault and created a Password Vault password. again, I get the message, "The password entered does not match the stored Vault password", the password I had just created.

Very frustrating,

Andy

Does the password that you're typing match the Capitalization of the stored password?

  • Same issue here. Spent hours with Customer Support who said it was my data file. Restored an old data file — it worked — then after a transaction update and program file close/open the problem returned. Seems to have started after a recent program update.

I have the same issue. I also have Quicken Deluxe. Started happening sometime in Dec 2024. I can’t tell which version update started causing this.

I am running the current release (and all the releases leading up to it) and I am not experiencing any vault password issues, so it's not a systemic Quicken issue. What happens if you create a new test data file, create a vault, and try to open the vault? As a thorough test, add a Direct Connect bank and password to OSU, and run it. Further, exit Quicken and re-enter and see if the vault still works.

I think I figured out the issue purely by luck—well, at least on my Quicken CLASSIC Deluxe version. I believe that somehow the vault password was truncated to 8 characters only. Or another way to put it is somehow it was only comparing the first 8 characters and if you enter more than 8, it is causing a mismatch, and you'll get the password error?

So, if your vault password is longer than 8-characters, just type in the first 8 characters and see if that will allow you in. I tried it 3 times and it worked for me.
