Capital One Credit card transaction payee field now includes credit card number - how to remove?

My Capital One credit card downloaded transactions now include in the Payee field the last 4 digits of the credit card used. Example: CULVERS OF STRONGSVILLE – 9999, where the – 9999 is the last 4 digits of the card. A new feature from the card company? I don’t want this information in the Payee field. Quicken support tells me there is no other option other than to create new payee rules for reach unique occurrence. That’s dozens of unnecessary rules. There’s got to be a better solution.

Use a Renaming Rule (Tools menu) to change anything that contains "CULVERS OF STRONGSVILLE" to be just the payee that you want.

There are dozens of other places I use the credit card. All these now contain the last for of the credit card number. I would have to create a new rule for each of the places I shop - and that is a lot. I thought I explaned that in my inital post. If it was just one, that woul dhave been a quicker solutionm than the time I spent chatting with support and the time i spent psoting the issue.

If you're relying entirely on downloads to make entries in your credit card register then, offhand, I can't think of any other way to eliminate that 9999 other than through renaming rules. I guess you could make the effort more palatable by not trying to create every possible renaming rule in one marathon effort, but instead change the rules one at a time as they show up in the register. Eventually you'd probably end up with pretty complete coverage of your "usual" payees.

Have you looked at your Capital One transactions online to see if the credit card company is now including that credit card number in their listing of transactions, where I'd think the aggregator (Intuit) would pick up the payee? If that's not the case then this might be a problem on Intuit's end, which could be fixed if enough Quicken users start complaining.

IMHO, it would be better if the credit card number were included in the Downloaded Memo field instead of the Payee Name. That would leave the Payee Name unchanged and alleviate the need for Renaming Rules.

I guess the credit card number was added by Intuit or the bank in their EWC+ code, to support card holders with more than one credit card in the family.
The Payee Name field, due to its limited length, should never contain anything other than the merchant name. Card number and additional text provided by the merchant needs to go into the Memo field.
