Transfers in Cash Flow Report
I'm trying to customize the year to date cash flow report in a way that includes only specific transfers, but not all or none.
Specifically, how can I show the transfers to loan accounts as cash flow-which they truly are? I have a category line for the interest, but unless I select "show all transfers" the actual principal payments don't show up in the expenditures section. I really don't want, or need, to see the transfers from savings to checking, or from investment accounts into local bank accounts as cash flow, I want to be able to choose specifically which transfers show up as either income or expense.
If I need to modify my categories, or add tags, or something similar, that's certainly possible.

In your report customization, include your "spending" accounts but not the loan accounts. On the Advanced tab, set Transfers to "Exclude Internal". The terminology is confusing, but "Exclude Internal" tells the report to ignore transfers between accounts that are selected for the report (payments from your checking account to a credit card account for example) but to include transfers between the selected accounts and other accounts.
Quicken's reports have different default settings, but they work the same way: Include the "spending" accounts but not the source account, and on the Advanced tab set Transfers to "Exclude internal". If the report has an Organization setting on the Advanced tab, set it to “Cash Flow Basis”.
