How to change _IntInc to IntInc

I have been using categories with the underline (_IntInc _Div, etc) with accounts that are tax deferred and without the underline for taxable accounts or tax deferred accounts where I take the money out of the account immediately. But when I use investment accounts, the program does not allow me to change categories based on the type of investment account. I like that the underline does not show up on reports since that is not immediate income or expense, but it also hides current taxable income on reports.

How do I change the category in the investment register for interest income?

Why are you doing that, because it is not the way the program is designed to operate.

You don’t be because that is not the way the program is designed to operate. The programming expects you to distinguish taxable and tax-deferred income in various reports based on account selection.

The one way you can process as you wish would be to use MiscInc transactions for those you want to assign to the IntInc category. I would find that path too labor intensive.

_IntInc, _Div, are tied "security actions", and the only way to "change them" would be to use a "Misc security action".

For instance, on this dialog. An entry in the Dividend text box will have a category of _Div. And an entry in the Interest text box would have a category of _IntInc. If you put a value in the Miscellaneous text box, then the "Category for miscellaneous" pulldown menu becomes active, and you can set it to whatever category you want.

You can't change from one to the other using something like find and replace, so if you want to do this you would have do it one at a time manually.

And just so you know you are fighting the way Quicken works. Quicken doesn't judge "taxable" at the category level for the tax reports or Tax Planner, it does that at the account level. Basically, when an account is marked Tax Deferred, Quicken will by default not select that account for any tax report. And for the Tax Planner it never includes such accounts.
