Cash balance on investment portfolio doesn't match register

In one of my investment accounts, the register shows a cash balance of 0.00 but the INVESTING Portfolio screen shows a negative cash balance. I have run validate on my file, but did not rebuild investing lots or correct price history.

    Hello @David15,

When did this issue begin? After a recent update? Are you receiving any error codes or messages? Could you please provide a screenshot or two of what you are seeing? If needed, please refer to this Community FAQ for instructions on how to attach a screenshot. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop screenshots to your response if you are not given the option to add attachments.

    Thanks!

I have no idea how long this has been true, I just noticed it (I don't generally notice the cash value in that screen). This display shows -33.23 as the cash balance, but the associated register shows 0.0 as the cash balance.

if you walk back the As of date in time, you might learn something. Is the value constantly 33.23, or does it vary? Is there a relevant transaction on some date. Maybe delete and re-enter that transaction.

q_lurker, I did as you suggested and walked back using the Holdings button from the register, so I could monitor both the register result and the other result, which it turns out shows up not only in the Investing Portfolio screen and the Holdings screen but also when you select Update Cash Balances. It turns out I got all the way back to January 2004, when one Buy transaction had N/A for the Cash Amt. I could not fix that transaction, so had to reinput it and delete the bad one, but now everything matches.

Usually a N/A cash indicates a placeholder for that security. I am not sure a delete & re-enter changes that, so your N/A may have been just a single corrupted transaction the the delete & re-enter did correct.

Glad you got it squared away.

I'm having the same issue. It's hard to tell when exactly the problem started. The cash flow often goes into the negative when things are being bought and sold. I have noticed that when I manually enter a cash amount, Quicken correctly identifies the full value of the account. But the cash in the portfolio doesn't move. However, it is the same number as the balance in the register. And if I changed an existing transaction, the cash in the portfolio view moves. It's almost as if anything I enter manually, Quicken will NOT update the cash in the portfolio view. But if it was a downloaded transaction, it will. Does that make sense?

@befuddledanddazed You have tagged in on a Windows discussion. Mac operations are distinctly different in many situations. I suggest you start a new post in the Mac Investment area fully describing your situation.
