LAM Research Group
Quicken For MAC 7.10.1 OS15.1.1. The stock split on 10/2/24. When it split is changed the stock name to LAM RESEARCH CORP COM TO LAM RESEARCH CORPORATION NEW but did not change the stock symbol. This has created incorrect balances in Q in prior years. I have attached a screenshot of the transactions. Of course Quicken for Mac still does not record stock splits (I huge unresolved problem) so the download included a "sell bonds" type transaction as you can see on the attached. I tried to delete those sell bond transactions at it does to solve the issue it seems it is related to the split being indicated under the new company name. How can I resolve this issue?

@James Young Quicken Mac does record stock splits, and it works correctly. For instance, here's a transaction I had last year when Broadcom had a 10-for-1 stock split:
What you're describing indicates a problem with how Morgan Stanley output the transactions to Quicken. It isn't terribly unusual for brokerages to have their own unique way of displaying stock splits, requiring Quicken users to delete the downloaded transaction and enter the correct one in Quicken.
You said they didn't change the stock symbol, and from what I see if a quick search, they shouldn't have, as the company previously and currently trades under 'LRCX'.
Here's what I would do:
- Save a Backup in case something gets further messed up! 😉
- Delete the two Sell Bonds transactions from 10/3/24 in Quicken
- Enter a Stock Split transaction dated 10/3/24 as shown above.
- Go to Window > Securities and make sure you have only one security for LAM Research; if the of that security name is "LAM RESEARCH CORPORATION NEW", you can edit it back to "LAM RESEARCH CORP COM".
- Double-click on the security, and then click on the Price History tab. Sometimes Quicken's quotes provider may have oddities around the time of a stock split. You should expect to see the closing price change by a factor of 10 on the date of the split or the next trading day. For example, for the Broadcom split pictured above, here's what I see in Quicken's Price History leading before and after the 7/15/24 stock split:
You can see the closing price went from around 1,700 before 7/15/24 to around 170 after the 10-for-1 stock split on that date. If you notice anything funky with the closing prices for your LRCX security in Quicken shortly before or after that date, visit a site like Yahoo Finance, look up the actual closing prices for that time period, and edit any dates in Quicken which are wrong.

Thanks for the swift reply. Unfortunately it would not let me change the new name of the security to the old name. When I tried to change the name to the old security name it said "that name already exists". Suggestion?

So after deleting the Sell Bonds transactions, in your Portfolio screen, do you currently have holdings of both securities (LAM COM and LAM NEW) or just one? In the screenshot you posted, it didn't show removing shares of LAM COM and adding shares of LAM NEW. But that's why in my fourth bullet point above, I said Go to Window > Securities and make sure you have only one security for LAM. If you have no shares of LAM NEW, I think it will let you simply delete it. Alternatively, it should let you select both securities and click the Merge Securities button to merge them; it will ask you which name you want to retain.

Yes after I deleted the sell bonds it still shows holdings in both the Lam Com and Lam New.
Let me first clarify though. Before any adjustments at 12/31/24 it shows only the LAM NEW, See Screen shot #1 attached but in prior years it shows both see screen shot #2 attached. This is also the case AFTER I perform the removal of the sell bonds transactions because of the stock split automated protocols in Quicken explained below.
. What happens when one of my holdings splits is that I don't receive the split information from the brokerage Morgan Stanley, the current down load in this case 10/324 includes current shares (post split) and price(after the split). The way the system adjusts is to go back to the date of stock acquisition(in this case 1/22/20, this is shown at the bottom of the screen shot in the first post) and adds shares to equal the share count post split in all prior periods from inception which throws off all prior years balances because it includes the added split shares to the stock price at that time which significantly inflates the holdings balance. They way I repair this is to just manually record the splits and then the add shares automated entry on the date of inception goes away and all years are reported correctly.
What complicates this is the inclusion of the new security name LAM NEW. So even when I remove the Sell Bonds transaction on 10/3, the add shares auto adjustment to LAM New on 1/22/20 remains which is why I believe it still shows holdings in both accounts. I am guessing that after I remove the 10/3/24 bond sales I should also remove the auto add and remove shares entries of 1/22/20? Before I did this I wanted to check with you first based on the this new information. Thanks again for all your help.
