Need a Category recording like a check register (Q Mac)

I am wondering if Q MAC (Classic Deluxe), can make/show deposits and withdraws from a Category.

IE:

Starting balance in January is $1,000 and I have budgeted $400 for each month. February 1st I would show $1,400. February 15th I deduct $800 but on Feb 25th I add my budgeted amount of $400. March 1st I should show a balance of $1,000 ($1,400 - $800 + $400). In the report is would show this just like a check register.

I'm a little confused by your mixing of accounts and categories and budgets. Quicken budgets are built for categories, not accounts, and at this time isn't really built to support "envelope" budgeting (although this is apparently planned for the future). Budgets show monthly totals, not lists of transactions like a register.

If you are creating actual transactions for your budgeting, then a transaction report will show how much you have added and removed from a category for whatever time period you specify. I guess if you make a transaction to add $1,000 to a category on January 1, then a recurring transaction each month to add $400, and a withdrawal of $800, the transaction report will show what you want. But this is really working against the way Quicken is built to track your real-world income and expenses, so I'd think this would not be a desirable wya to work.

Quicken has promised some improvements to budgeting which I'm expecting we'll see sometime in 2025, so you'll want to watch for these improvements to see if they make budgeting better for you. But I don't think budgeting will ever have transaction reporting which combines actual transactions and budget amounts as you've described.
