Why can't I see categories I created; why can't I edit categories I created (Q Mac)

Categories used to be editable - this may let you know how long I've used Quicken. I'll accept that it's good or even not possible to edit default categories but I ought to be able to edit categories I've created.

I have no problem editing and deleting categories I've created in the current Quicken Mac. As you note, there are about a dozen categories created by Quicken which are "Required" and can't be edited. merged or deleted. (Most of these are subcategories of Investments, which are used by Quicken to calculate gains/losses and other tax matters.)

When you go to Window > Categories, and you find the category you want to delete, does it show "Unused" in the Uses column?

You can't delete a category which is used in one or more transactions. You can instead Hide it, so it doesn't show up as a choice in the Category drop down list any more. Or you can Merge it with another category. Or you can edit the transaction(s) which use this category to use another one, and then delete the Category.

I'm not aware of cases where I can't edit a category I've created.

Can you give more specifics and post screenshots showing your Unused category in the Categories window, and what message you get when you try to delete it?
