How to resolve error: "you can't save the file Quicken because the volume is read only"? (Q Mac)

I am trying to open the Quicken desktop app for Mac. It's been months since I've opened it. It prompts me with "Quicken needs to be insalled in the Applications folder. Click "Instal" to copy this version of Quicken to the Applicaitons folder"
After clicking "Install" I get the error: "you can't save the file "Quicken (710.55389.100)" because the volume "[string-of-letters-and-numbers]" is read only"
I have multiple (PRE-UPDATE) .quickenbackups stored on my hard drive.
I have the "Quicken Classic Deluxe" subscription for Mac
How do I resolve this?

Just to confirm, I can download it again using the link in my 'Overview' tab?
Yes…
after downloading, should I delete version v7.10, or will it automatically overwrite it with v8.0?
Assuming the current 7.10 version is in your Applications folder, the installer should remove it. But you could drag Quicken.app from the Applications folder to the Trash before running the installer to avoid any possible complication.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, there's a preference file you could remove to see if it clears whatever Quicken is hung up on, but I'd try this first.

Trashing it and re-downloading did the trick. Thanks

Why don't you try to download a fresh copy of the installer from Quicken.com and see if you get the same result. (The one you posted above is trying to install version 7.10, while the current version is 8.0.) I'd also suggest restarting your computer before you duo this, because that sometimes resolves odd problems.

So I tried to redownload the package and got the same error. I am updating my Mac now. Then I guess I'll try trashing 7.0 and downloading 8.0. hope it doesn't mess any records up.
