PNC Bank - Missing Transactions from DownLoad

Quicken - R60.20, Windows 11

Quicken PNC account is not showing all transactions. I don't receive any error messages. I have deactivated the account and reconnected numerous times.

The issue is two fold. If a payment was made from PNC to another Credit Card, the transaction is shown on the credit card. Also, just missing other transactions. I was told by Quicken Support this was an ongoing problem. It has been a number of weeks and the issue still isn't resolved. I would like to know if anyone else has any information or suggestions on how to deal with the missing transaction issue.

Yes, downloading from PNC with the Express Web Connect+ (EWC+) connection method has had a problematic history for many months in that sometimes some transactions will not download. In some cases, the missing transactions will download days or weeks later but often they will never download.

As you have observed, the missing transactions is a data missing issue, not an issue where transactions are not actually occurring.

I have my PNC accounts set up with EWC+ but only in a test account so I can track it. In my main data file I have PNC set up with Direct Connect (DC) which for the most part has been very reliable and trouble-free….at least for me.

If you are missing a lot of transactions, then you might want to log into your online PNC account and manually download the transactions in the Quicken (qfx) format file. Then manually import the downloaded file into Quicken and make sure you match it to the correct account you already have set up in Quicken. NOTE:

    1. You might need to deactivate the account in Quicken in order to manually import that qfx file.
    2. When manually downloading the file from PNC.com, you will need to select the date range for the transactions you want downloaded. This means that some transactions downloaded this will will likely be entered into the account as duplicates. Duplicates will need to be manually deleted.

If the transactions are not many and if the occur only randomly, then I usually recommend simply manually entering them into the account register. It is often be faster and easier to do that than to try to work with the manaully downloaded/imported transactions file.

    Does this answer your question?

Yes, thank you. For me I'm evaluating to see if I continue to use this product. It seems to have many deficiencies. It's the same reason I stopped using this product about 15 years ago. Now I am sorry I tried it again.

Most of the issues encountered in Quicken are not caused by Quicken. They are caused by the financial institution or the downloading process that occurs between the financial institution and the aggregator (not Quicken). A good example of this is with PNC's missing downloaded transactions. It occurs with the PNC EWC+ connection method but most EWC+ connected financial institutions do not have this issue. That's a pretty good indication that it is a PNC and/or a PNC/aggregator issue, not a Quicken issue. If it were a Quicken issue then it should be happening with most if not all other EWC+ connected financial institutions but that is not the case.

Quicken is a rather complex program with which many things are not terribly intuitive. This causes some users to do things incorrectly in the program that can contribute to or actually cause issues or simply make it harder to use. That's where this Community forum can be a really helpful tool because people can get tips on how to best use Quicken so that it can, in most cases, produce accurate, reliable and consistent results. A good example of this lack of intuitiveness of Quicken is also related to PNC. I had mentioned that the DC connection provides a highly reliable, accurate and fast method for downloading. But where do users get this information about which connection method works best which each financial institution and how do they get set up with that connection method? Other than some rather general connection set up and connection change instructions, you won't find the answers to financial institution-specific connection questions in Quicken. Some financial institutions will provide the answers but the vast majority do not. However, much of that information can be obtained from this Community in historical or in new discussions.

I've been using Quicken since 2010. There was a time early in my use of Quicken when I would get frustrated with the, as you say, "deficiencies" of the program but after an initial learning curve and gaining information gleaned from this Community I long ago became pretty satisfied and happy with the results and performance I get out of Quicken. I still get "surprises" once in a while but for the most part it works for me just like it should.

If you are expecting Quicken to be trouble-free and always producing excellent results without any issues then it might not be the right solution for you. But I think you would be very hard pressed to find any other financial software that will meet that requirement, as well. And I know of no other financial planning software that has the tools and reporting capabilities that Quicken has. In addition, almost all financial planning softwares are Cloud-based, not computer-based like Quicken Classic is. If you are OK with a Cloud-based solution, you might want to consider trying Quicken Simplifi. You can try it and if within 30 days you find it does not meet your needs/wants you can request a full, no questions asked refund.

There was an open Alert posted about the issue you are having with PNC that I missed earlier. Today the Alert was updated to show the issue is resolved. In that Alert there is a link to a Support Article you might want to review to see if that resolves your specific missing transactions issue.:

    I hope this helps.
