How to add total Gain/Loss to a report

edited March 11 in Reports (Windows)

Hi, I'm trying to see a custom view or report of only specific securities, and include the total Gain/Loss $ and Gain/Loss %. The default/standard report named "Portfolio Value" is close, but I can't add the columns I want.

Basically what I'm trying to recreate is the "Holdings" view when you're in an account and you click Holdings near the top. I really like this view, but it doesn't let me filter/customize the securities. (I don't want to create a "separate" account with just specific securities because I would need to re-create all the buys/sells/reinvest dividends manually)

Thanks for any ideas.

Have you tried an Investing > Portfolio view? They are like the "Holdings" view for an account but they are customizable to include specific accounts and securities and you can pick the columns to include.

Thanks for the idea, I should have mentioned that won't work because I would need to repeatedly go in and select the securities, I would be changing between default (all securities), group A, group B, etc. which would get tedious throughout the year.

I wish Quicken would allow multiple Watch Lists and allow the Watch Lists to be filtered to a specific account (since I may own the same security in multiple IRAs, roboadvisors etc. with a different cost basis)

You could do a different portfolio view for each group and a security can be in multiple portfolio views

Aha! That works great, columns'o'plenty! I had already looked for a New button or Add View button but didn't see one. After you suggested that, I looked again and noticed the Custom1 - Custom19 views that I can customize. I also added new "Investing Goals" and use those as Tags, so I can assign a goal/tag to each security and sort/filter them that way too. Thanks!

How many groups do you have and how often do the securities in each group change? You can repurpose any of the standard views and there are 20 custom views you can set up however you want.

As you mention, Investing Goals may help to organize your securities, but each security can only have one goal.

If you can provide more detail on what you want to do we may be able to recommend a configuration for you.

In addition to Investing goals you can also create some additional Security Types. One in particular I make good use of is having a type Money Mkt. Portfolio views and investing reports (except maturity dates) allow you to include/exclude by type.

Great suggestions, I'm happy with the custom views, thank you all. I'm hesitant to change the Security Type, I'm worried that would change my asset allocation/diversification type data.

I appreciate the caution about revising Security Types. There can be unintended consequences. There should not be any asset allocation issues since those are based on Asset Class, not Security Types.
