UNBELIEVABLE & UNACCEPTABLE 25 years of transactions and dozens of categories GONE

As the title says.

Quicken for Mac, Version 8.0.1 (Build 800.56243.100), macOS 15.3

I don't know how many but literally dozens, maybe hundreds of categories are gone.

My transactions are literally 1374 pages in portrait mode, with an average of 42 transactions per page - 57,000+ transactions, and over 13,000 that are now "uncategorized"

This sucks!

This is why we all — hopefully! — have backups. You should be able to go back to a backup from before this happened, restore that backup, and get back to normal fairly quickly.

If you neglected to make backups periodically, you still have some possible paths to recover.

    1. If you use a cloud storage service and you keep a copy of your Quicken data there, your cloud service may have its own recycle bin distinct from any your local computer has. OneDrive does this (I know from personal experience) and I'd be surprised if other cloud services don't do this too. OneDrive keeps a copy of all deleted files for 30 days, and it has a Restore capability. I had an incident similar to yours, and I was back in business without any damage in five minutes.
    2. Look into file recovery software - do a search for "file recovery" and "file undelete". In the last week, PC Magazine's web site had reviews and ratings of software in this category.
    3. Take your computer to a professional, they may be able to recover your data. They will expect to be paid for their time, even if they are not successful in recovering your data.

I am a Windows user, but I would expect these options also apply to Mac computers.

I have time machine, so plenty of backups. I had to open each pne to find the correct version.

883 categories on the good file, 607 on the bad file.

It took a couple of hours to to correct all the entries as well as 50 or 60 missing entries.

The file corruption coincided with a version update.
