Discrepancy between downloaded payee in register and that in renaming window

For a number of months now I've noticed that when I download transactions the payee name entered in a register is abbreviated. The abbreviation is often unrecognizable or obtuse. I find the full payee name by opening the financial institution activity and enter it into the register. When I hit Save the transaction the renaming window pops up. In the renaming window the stated downloaded payee name is more full and recognizable. But that is not the payee name Quicken initially entered into the register. This happens often with credit cards but these are where I have the most transactions. For years the downloaded name into the account register was more robust. Have others noticed this?

I have attached an example: Into the register was downloaded 'Country Club'. The QUICKEN renaming window said the downloaded payee was ''Atlantis Country Club'

It sounds like the setting to use Quicken's automatic renaming has been enabled. To disable this go to Edit > Preferences > Downloaded transactions and un-check the "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee" box.

I'll try that. That assumes that option (automatically apply…) alters the initial payee name from that which Quicken receives from the financial institution to the abbreviated one that shows up in the register. I'll give it a try but it seems odd Quicken would do that.

    Thanks

The "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name" option is for people who do not want to create their own renaming rules and/or to allow Quicken to make guesses in case none of your rules applies. In my experience it works pretty well but as you have seen, the renaming is overly simplistic. If you don't like the suggested names, you can create your own renaming rules or turn the option off entirely. When creating a rule to override a bad suggestion, be sure to select "If Payee contains" option rather than "If Quicken name is".
