Changing paycheck contributions from Roth 401k to regular 401k

This is not a Quicken issue, rather how the Financial Institution is managing their QFX import file, and I am looking for any workarounds to their shortcoming, IMO.

I recently changed my paycheck 401k contributions from Roth to standard 401k. The FI shows everything under the same account, and I have to really dig through their website to see the distinction. For simplicity let's say I have:
* Roth 401k: 100 shares of XYZ, total value $1,000
* new 401k: 5 shares of XYZ, total value $50

The FI provides only a Web Connect QFX file download method to import into Quicken.

If I import the QFX file now into Quicken, all goes into the prior [Roth] account that I had setup in the past. This will somewhat confuse things. So I need to create a new 401k account in Quicken to direct the new downloads into it. Am I on the right track so far?

In my testing to accomplish this, I need to Deactivate the online services to the prior Roth account. Only then it allows me to select and link the QFX import directed into the the new 401k account.

The challenge is: total account value and number of shares. Because the FI's QFX file treats it as one account, it shows my total as having 105 shares of XYZ with a value of $1,050. This makes reconciling the new regular 401k account in Quicken a challenge. Also the holdings "compared to online portfolio" will always be off. Any suggestions how to better manage this situation, if any? Thank you.

P.S. I can see how this can get even more challenging if I were contributing to both accounts - which I am not at this time.

What does the FI's website show? I'm thinking it shows 105 shs in one account.

Assuming that's correct, disconnect both accounts, move the 100 shs from old account to new account and connect new account.

Take a backup before doing that, just in case.

Yes, it shows 105 shares total.

I understand what you are suggesting for simplicity. Doing so, the old Roth account becomes zero.

So what you are saying is that I have to keep a note that in reality I have 100 shares in Roth 401k - for the future when I roll it over to my personal (non-employer) Roth IRA?

105 shs total in 1 account, or 2? And, if 1 acct, which?

    Q should always reflect reality.

I have one account at the FI called Principal Financial Group. It shows I have a 401k account with just one account number. This accounts contains 105 shares with value of $1,050.

Only when I go to my Contribution details it shows these two live links:

Once I click on either of these two, then it shows I have 5 shrs in regular and 100 shrs in Roth. I have never seen it done this way since most other FIs provide two accounts for such case. The easiest way I can describe this is one account with two folders.

Except that, in Q, accounts can't have sub-accounts (which is what I think you might mean by "folders").

SO, I go back to my original suggestion and show everything in the Roth 401k account and connect the Roth 401k to the FI.

And since you previously said that 105 shs is being downloaded, this should work.

Yes, and I didn't want to call it sub-accounts since typically FI's may have sub-accounts with sub-numbers such as 1234-1, 1234-2 and they separate them as such. But not in this case.

So it is a bit screwy but I know what I need to do to make the best of the situation. As always thank you @NotACPA .
