Retire All Years Except for Current Year and Seven Years Prior

Have read as much as I could find here on subject, but find issue with one statement implying that only those with something to hide might wish a feature that would automatically allow users to keep only the years they wish to keep as data without them having to do it manually, taking hours to weeks, maybe months to accomplish. I for one just do not wish to have data that is no longer useful clogging up my computer, when said assets clearly can be more useful to me on other projects, and do not talk to me about the expense of an external drive or purchasing a computer with more storage available.

In what way is it "clogging up your computer"? Because doing a Year-End Copy to split your data file will actually take MORE total space than leaving the data intact as there's items that will be duplicated between both files plus inherent file overhead.

And, spitting the file will result in negligible performance improvement.

Also, are you aware that in your current file you can HIDE accounts that are closed and categories that are no longer used?

SO, what's your actual objective here?

My original post was over a year ago, but to answer NotACPA's question, I simply do not need nor wish to keep data beyond a certain point in time, and Only want to keep those years as required by the IRS in case of an audit. Years ago, Quicken made this easy enough, but seemingly they have done away with the option. My objective is to get rid of years pre-2017 without having to do it manually which is extremely time consuming. Yes, am aware, always have been, of the Hide feature. Kindly be helpful, NotACPA, or just do not comment. Thanks.
