Unable to switch from 1 quicken file to another

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭✭

I have more than one quicken file. When I want to switch to another I use File>new file name and historically the password window opens for the new file. Recently I have been getting an error window that says I cannot switch because there's a background operation running such as back up to the cloud. I have a PC and have not turned on any backup or chosen the Quicken backup to Cloud option. See attachment for the message that I get. I even close the open Quicken session, reopen it and try to open the other file but the message reappear.

Any suggestions on the cause and how to stop this problem?

I assume that when trying to open the new file you're reaching down in the File drop down list of recently opened files, to select the new file. Is that correct? If it is correct then have you also tried File > Open Quicken File… and then tried opening the new file from the list shown in File Explorer to see if that works?

Is this behavior observed irrespective of which of your "more than one" Quicken files you select, or is it limited to one particular file?

You've opened the [new file name] directly on Quicken on startup, and that works OK? If it does work OK have you tried going in the other direction, trying to open a different file?

    Following up …

Do you still have this problem?
If so, I suspect that it is Microsoft OneDrive which is grabbing hold of the just closed current data file to make a backup. This interferes with Quicken trying to first make its own Automatic and/or Manual Backup before it switches to the other file.

OneDrive should be reconfigured to NOT process the active Quicken data file. This could lead to data file damage.
Alternatively, the \Quicken folder and all its subfolders should be moved to a different folder, not under OneDrive control, e.g., C:\Users\your_username_here\Documents\Quicken
If you must have Quicken data file backups sent to OneDrive, put the Automatic Backup file folder under OneDrive control.

You may not make use of OneDrive yourself, but as of a certain Windows 10 and 11 service level (from about 2 years ago), OneDrive is always running in the background and processing a certain subset of folders automatically for you, e.g., the folders with \OneDrive in the folder name.

So, if the problem happens again, please re-read my earlier response and take appropriate action.
