Import of QFX file changes account currency to USD

I have some foreign currency bank accounts. When I download the QFX file:

(a) quicken classic deluxe only accepts QFX file with USD payments

(b) it then changes the account (and all historical transactions in the account) to USD

How do I import QXF file into Quicken Classic Deluxe with non-USD payments?

    Hello @gammaphreak,

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how frustrating it must be to have Quicken Classic Deluxe automatically convert your foreign currency accounts to USD, especially when working with historical transactions.

To get a clearer picture of the issue, could you confirm which financial institution the QFX file is coming from and whether the file explicitly specifies a currency other than USD? Have you checked if the QFX file includes a currency tag that might be affecting the import process? Additionally, when Quicken changes the account to USD, does it also adjust the transaction amounts, or does it simply change the displayed currency while keeping the original values?

First, I recommend creating a test file in Quicken and attempting to import the QFX file there. This will help determine whether the issue is tied to the existing QFX file from the financial institution or if Quicken is enforcing a USD conversion upon import.

To create a test file, navigate to File > New Quicken File… Please make sure to deactivate this specific financial institution/account from your main file before proceeding. It is also recommended to save a backup (just in case).

Please let me know the results, and I’d be happy to continue assisting you.

You have posted in a Quicken Windows thread, but your profile says that you are using Quicken Mac, which is it?

For Quicken Windows US doesn't support importing of QFX files in anything other than USD.

I have tried this and it generates the same error - saying that the transactions are in the incorrect currency (i.e. not USD). Although the account currency is set to non-USD (it is set to "ZAR") and the QFX file has the indicator: "<CURDEF>ZAR"

So - not clear what is going on here?

Well, I had some people had some success with non US/Canadian currencies while using Quicken Windows Canadian, but official only USD and CAD are supported, and whether it works or not could certainly depend on which currency.
