X-Ray Interface (New vs Old) for Customizing Securites

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I had not used Quicken's Portfolio X-Ray feature for quite some time on my Windows 11 computer. To get X-Ray to function, I had to identify the Stocks, ETFs and Mutual Funds that I wanted to include in the report. (If I defaulted to all my securities X-Ray would just present an error message.)

Anyway, while selecting the 30 or so securities presented on the customizing screen. I noticed that there was a button at the bottom of the screen that said. "Switch Back To Old Interface". Since I was frustrated with the selection process, I decided to see what the "Old Interface" looked like to see if it offered more options. When I clicked on the button, it did go back to the Old Interface. However, I found the Old Interface to be less friendly than the New Interface. Unfortunately, there is no button on the Old Interface to Return to the New Interface.

Can anyone suggest a way to restore the New Interface on the X-Ray's Customizing Securities Screen? (I do not want to return to any of my backups as too much data would have to be identified and reentered.)

Thanks for any help!!!

Edit → Preferences → Early Access → Customize Reports

Also, X-Ray hasn't changed in a long time, but there has always been this bug where it will tell you that you haven't selected any securities. and the workaround is that you have to do something change the settings and then just change them back to what you want.

If your error message was some form of a SAML error, see this discussion:

Yes q_lurker, my error message is the same as yours and I avoid that by not selecting any of my bonds or CDs in the Customizing Securities selection.

My problem is that the Old (Original) Interface for Customizing Securities presents a very much truncated Security Name and it is sometimes hard to tell what the security actually is. The New Interface provides almost all (if not all) of the Name of the security so is easier to identify. Therefore, I'd like to restore my X-Ray's Customize Securities interface to the New version.

To see the new version of the security and account selection dialogs, go to Edit > Preferences > Early Access and check the Customize Reports box. Note that this will change the dialogs for Quicken's reports as well. There have been reports of issues with unwanted Categories being included in Spending reports when you use the new interface; I am not sure if this has been resolved.

The issue with security names being truncated appears elsewhere in Quicken as well. What I have done to work around this is to rename my securities so that the names begin with the ticker symbol, so for example General Electric is "GE-General Electric". These names can be anything you want - Quicken uses the ticker symbol to retrieve quotes and a unique code, usually the CUSIP number, to match its securities to downloaded transactions.
