Using Mac 15.3.2 Accessibility Voice Control unreliable with Quicken for mac

Quicken Mac Subscription Member

I have been using quicken for decades and for the last few years have increasingly had to depend on the "voice control" feature which is an accessibility option for many things I do on the computer.

A couple years ago this had worked very well with quicken for mac and as time has passed I have found it becoming more and more unreliable, in the sense that speaking into the fields worked less than less to the point where now I have to go through many gyrations trying to coax it to work by speaking first into Firefox Fields for searching and other programs. Sometimes doing that first would allow me to enter transaction details with some vague consistency.

Now I find myself having to enter transactions by hand which is very difficult for me. I have been using quicken for decades and depend on it.

I'd like to know if anyone else out there has been using their voice successfully to enter transactions into quicken for mac, and perhaps you could give some specifics about how you are managing that and how reliable it may be.

I really need to get this working and would appreciate any help that could be given me.

Thank you.

    Hello @Jimbo74,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience — and first, I want to acknowledge how important accessibility is, especially when it comes to something as essential as managing your finances.

We truly appreciate you being a long-time Quicken user, and I’m sorry to hear that Voice Control has become less reliable for you in recent versions of Quicken for Mac. You're absolutely right that macOS's Voice Control feature is a key tool for many users, and it’s concerning to hear it’s no longer working as expected with transaction entry.

While Quicken for Mac doesn’t currently offer native voice input functionality, it should still work in harmony with macOS accessibility features like Voice Control. We’ve seen that updates to either Quicken or macOS can sometimes affect compatibility, especially when it comes to UI changes.

That said, here are a few things you can try:

    • Make sure Quicken has Full Disk Access and is allowed under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility.
    • Use Voice Control’s “Show Numbers” or “Grid” commands to help target fields more precisely.
    • Some users have had success “priming” Voice Control by speaking into other apps first, as you mentioned — this may be a helpful workaround for now, though it’s understandably frustrating.

Thank you again for reaching out, and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you notice any patterns or have additional feedback. We’re here to help.
