Vanguard Transaction Download

After the recent issue with downloading transactions from Vanguard I thought the problem had been resolved until I found that transactions were not being downloaded from one of my Vanguard accounts. The account is configured for direct connect in quicken. I have done a couple of things. First, I created a new quicken file and added my Vanguard accounts. I did not recognize one of the accounts in the list to add but after downloading the transactions it turns out to be the one that is not downloading transactions in my actual data file. Second I went back to my regular file and reset the account. Again the bogus Vanguard account was in the list of accounts that Quicken offered to reconnect to. Although I know this account does correspond to my Vanguard account with respect to transactions I am afraid to link to it because of the unknown consequences. I plan to call Vanguard and see if they recognize the bogus account number and explain why my actual account number is not being found by Quicken. In the meantime I will just grab the QFX (?) file off the Vanguard web site when needed.

@Snorkle Please go to your working data file and follow the step by step instructions posted on Page 1 of this discussion as the 4th item under "Best answers".
Please let us know if this resolves your problem.

I did what you suggest yesterday prior to posting my comment and again tried today after reading your response. The account that I want to reconnect is not displayed at the "add account" step after logging into Vanguard. Instead there is an account with an account number that I do not recognize. So no joy.

I suggest you run through the process again, including the part in bold below.
For accounts that have been connected for many years, you may need to use old account numbers that begin with 2 digits and a V rather than the current 8 digit numbers when re-linking the accounts. If you downloaded transactions using Web Connect (QFX) during the outage, your account numbers may have been changed to the new numbers. If in doubt, open a backup from before the outage, record the correct account numbers, and then return to your working file. You are only using the backup to see what account numbers Quicken was using for Direct Connect before the outage.

So I should just go ahead and link to the old xxV account?
I used QFX files from the Vanguard web site during the outage for 4 Vanguard accounts. None of the account numbers in my Quicken file were changed. They all still have the current Vanguard account numbers. Only one of those accounts failed to download transactions after the outage. Based on your comment about old accounts I find that this is the only account in my Quicken register that has transactions older than 2022, which is when I transitioned to the brokerage platform. For some reason I brought over old individual stock transactions into the new Quicken account.
So maybe I will close my eyes and link to what may be the old account number. Or I will just manually download a QFX file from the web site when necessary!

Yes, that is what I have been trying to tell you.
When you download QFX files into an old account, it converts the account to "Web connect" and uses the new 9 digit account number. In order to re-link via Direct Connect, you must use the old Pershing account number if that is what it was using before the outage. If you follow the instructions I linked, you will open a backup from before the outage and see what number to use.
If for some reason that does not work, the worst that will happen is that you will revert to the backup of your current file, with the connections as they were before and no data lost.

Thanks. I had a mental block that the current account numbers had to be correct. Anyway I now have the account relinked and all is well. Thanks again.

@Jim_Harman Out of curiosity I would be interested in knowing what "Pershing" refers to. I assume it refers to a company that provided some sort of service for Vanguard in the past.

Pershing was the clearing house for Vanguard brokerage accounts before they set up their own brokerage, Vanguard Brokerage Services, in 2009. At that time they set up their own trading platform and transitioned the old brokerage accounts to the VBS platform, which uses 9 digit account numbers rather than the Pershing numbers, which begin with 2 digits and a V.
For some reason accounts that were set up for downloading prior to the transition still use the old Pershing account numbers for Direct Connect, even though they use the new numbers for everything else.
