How do I handle a bill which is wrongly set up with a due date years into the future?

One of the utillities we have has over the years changed when and how often we pay the bill. The Bills & Income section in Quicken Classic Business & Personal, only shows the month and date of the due date. (I work as a software engineer. If I were to only show that, hiding the year, I would either get repremanded or possibily lose my job. I do NOT like the idea of hiding vital information from the user!!!) Because of the combination of the utility company changing when the bill is due, how often the bill is due, and Quicken hiding the year the bill is due, now Quicken thinks the bill's due date is in 2029.

So, how do I fix this??? Do I delete the bill from Bills & Income and re-create it? Is there some other way I can resolve this issue?

You know, I've never used that particular feature of Quicken - stuck in my ways I guess - but prompted by your question I did go over and looked at that area. And you're right, the display doesn't show a "year" in the due date, but it seems like that section only allows for 3 "future" time periods of 7, 14 or 30 days, so I'm not sure how you're seeing a bill due in 2029, unless there's an option in there that I didn't see of "4 years from now."

Since I don't use that feature the Bills & Income section only showed one manual bill paid out of my checking Account, but that one bill WAS available to me to modify by clicking on the "Manage manual bills and income" button, which brought up the bill, available for editing, in the "Bills & Income Reminders" feature that's avaialble by clicking Tools > Manage Bill and Income Reminders."

Can you get to this bill by following that path? It does sound like you can, and deleting that Bill and re-creating it does seem to me to be the logical route.

@Rod F. which Bill and Income Reminders feature are you using?

    • Bills tab
    • Tools | Bill and Income Reminders
    • Custom Home tab view snapshot | Bill and Income Reminders
    • Account register tab | Bill and Income Reminders

Hovering the mouse pointer over the Current Bill column's Date box in the Bills, Income & Transfers view should briefly show a popup with a complete date in a long date format.

To edit this reminder's next due date click the "▼" button in the Action column for this reminder.
Select "Edit this instance and all future instances".
Make the Date change and any other required changes in the Edit Bill Reminder popup.
