Why do some Canadian Stocks not update in Canadian Quicken

I have been having this problem with VFV and VRN from time to time. Today CNQ, VFV and VRN are not updating. I can find data on the BMO InvestorLine website and through the search function on Google Chrome but Quicken Classic Business and Personal is not updating these two stocks (CNQ & VRN) and one ETF (VFV).
Often with VFV and VRN it can be fixed by opening Edit Security for each and closing without editing. This work around is not working today.

If after clicking on Update when the market is is open, some securities update but you still have the clock icon with an old date in the Portfolio view for a stock or ETF, that is a clear indication that the quote feed is not working for that security.
In that case you would have to contact Quicken Support to see if they can get it fixed.

Hello @Scouter_Don,
Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. To help troubleshoot this, please provide more information. When did you first notice this problem? Has this been happening only with CNQ, VRN, and VFV? About how often does this issue happen (or are the intervals random)? Are these holdings in your watchlist or in your portfolio for one or more of your accounts?
When I checked our internal tools, I noticed that you're currently using R61.23. Please backup your Quicken file, and try updating to the most current version of Quicken Canada for Windows (R62.18). Please use this article for instructions and to download the current update patch:
I look forward to your response!

- Dear Quicken Kristina,
In response to your requests and suggestions:
- All of VFV VRN and CNQ are stocks/etfs that I own. All of them are in my portfolio.
- This has been happening with VFV and VRN since I first added them to my portfolio (VFV in late Feb 2025 and VRN in early March 2025). I have not added any other stocks or etfs to my portfolio during that time. CNQ I have held for a long time and the first time I can remembers this happening was yesterday.
- In the past for each of VFV and VRN I have solved this problem by opening the security to edit it, but not editing anything, and then closing the edit function. After that I would update pricing and the problem would resolve itself. I tried this work around yesterday and today for all of VFV, VRN and CNQ but this work around did not work on either occasion.
- This has also happened with PHN and BMO mutual funds (although, to the best of my recollection not both at the same time) but they have usually corrected themselves the next day, and usually when it happens I can not find an up to date pricing for them anywhere which makes me believe it is probably because they are behind in updating the pricing on the underlying assets in each mutual fund.
- As per your request, I backed up my data and updated the Quicken version last evening. The problem persisted. I deleted the manual entries for yesterday's prices that I had made and retried the update. The problem still persisted. Today, after the market opened, I tried updating again and the problem persisted for these 3 stocks/etfs. For clarity, none of them updated for yesterday's prices nor for today's prices. All other stocks are updating with no issues that I can see.
- The last backup I have before this started is April 11. Should I back up again and then restore back to April 11? I am reticent to do this unless it is necessary.

When you say you "open the security to edit it" what exactly are you doing? - clicking on the security name to open the Security Detail view then clicking on More and Edit Price History, or something else?
In the Investing > Portfolio views, there will be a little clock icon to the left of the price if it has not been updated on the current day. Hovering over the icon will show the most recent previous date that Quicken has a price for that security. Do you see the clock icons for the problem securities? It there is no clock icon but the price is wrong, it might mean that Quicken has received an out of out of date price rather than no price at all.
Price updates for mutual funds are different from stocks and ETFs. In the US at least, mutual fund prices only update after the close of the market each day, around 7:30 pm Eastern time, sometimes later.

Hello Jim,
In the past, when the security would not update, I right clicked on the security in the portfolio view, chose and opened "Edit Security", then closed "Edit Security" without editing anything, and then pressed the "Update" button. This would usually cause all securities to update including the security that had not updated earlier. I did not open "Edit Security" from the Security Detail view although that can be done from that view. The "edit Security" screen is shown below.
In the Investing > Portfolio views the "clock" icon you mention is showing for each of CNQ, VFV and VRN n my investments account and also for NA in my TFSA account. None of these securities is in both of those accounts. All 4 of them show the last update as April 11.
During today's trading day, in respect of other securities, the latest update for Mutual Funds (all Canadian) was April 14. For all other securities, the latest update was April 15.
In respect my comments about Mutual Funds, because (as you noted) they are only updated daily after the market closes and usually 3.5 to 5 hours after the market closes, I usually update them between 20:00 and 21:00 Eastern Time. When I noted that they did not update, I was indicating that they did not update by 01:00 Eastern Time on the next day. If they do not update by midnight that usually means they will not update until after the market closes on the next day. However, I have always found that mutual funds do update eventually, even if it is 24 hours late.
As noted before I added VFV to my portfolio in late Feb 2025 and VRN in early March 2025. NA was added on 2025-02-03 as a result of NA taking over CWB and my CWB shares (which I had held for years) being exchanged for NA shares. Since I am having no issues with securities first acquired before 2025, I am wondering whether the problem is somehow time related.

Thanks to Jim.
I followed his advice and contacted Quicken Support on 15 April. They were aware that prices/quotes were not updating for NA and VFV but were unaware that the same problem was presenting itself for VRN and CNQ. they hoped to have NA and VFV fixed within 2 days.
By 17 April NA and CNQ were fixed. However, as of 21 April, I still need to post Price /Quotes manually for VRN and VFV and the each of the 52 Week Range, Dividends, Dividend Date and Dividend Yield columns remain blank, as shown below:
