Searching on tags in Quicken Classic Starter edition

I can enter tags on transactions, but I can't search on tags. There is no option provided for that. Is this a limitation on the version I have? I can't restrict a report to only one tag, either.

@bmshulman what tool are you using for your search? Are you simply searching an account register? Or, using Find, or Find/Replace?

All of the above. None of them lets me search or filter on tags. Nor can I select only one tag in a report.

@bmshulman Ok a couple of questions then, do you have a Tag column in your register? That might make it easier to work with Tags.

When you use the Find or Find/Replace features, do you see "Tags" in the dropdown list?

Is it just that you can search on tags but you get no results?

The Starter Edition lets you enter Tags but as you have seen you can't do anything with them.

To search, filter, and report on Tags you need Deluxe or higher.

@Jim_Harman thank you. I was not aware of that. It is strange that you can create tags, but not search on them. Are they available for reports on the Starter edition?

@bmshulman well it seems like you are in a "catch-22" with Tags in the Starter edition. Not sure what the logic behind that is. Maybe to get you to upgrade?

Thanks, all. Confirms what I thought. I suspect they remain for compatibility with preexisting data. My data goes back to 1995, when tags were called classes. My version will created a report grouping by tags but won't let me select specific tags. I can work around it.

Actually, my belief is that it was an oversight, and they just didn't figure it was worth fixing.

In other words, I believe in the past tags were completely not available in the Starter edition, but in some release they accidentally "sort of" turned them on.
