connection to scanner is erratic

running quicken classic I am trying to connect to the scanner on my HP office jet pro 8130. An hour ago I connected (clicked paper clip next to transaction, selected scan, selected printer scanner) and scanned a number of bills connected to payments. After doing 3-4 quicken locked. When I restarted and try to scan clicking on scan and my printer/scanner model nothing happens. This has happened many times. Usually, I cannot scan at all.

When Quicken "locked" after scanning those few bills, did you notice any specific error messages, or did the program just freeze without warning? After the restart, when you click on the scanner, does it stay completely unresponsive, or does it show any signs like spinning wheels, brief flashes, or error beeps from the printer itself? Also, have you noticed if the problem happens more often after Quicken has been open for a long time, or even if you try right after a fresh system reboot? Finally, are you using a direct USB connection to the printer, or are you connecting over Wi-Fi, and if it's Wi-Fi, do you sometimes see brief disconnections in your network?
