All data from an account vanished while manually updating transactions [Edited]

I was posting transactions by hand into an investing account, and suddenly Quicken deleted everything (25+years worth) from that account. Yes, I have a backup, but lost everything else I did today, too. And no, these transactions cannot be imported. Windows 11, Quicken Premier.

Hello @DrP Moeller,
Thank you for letting us know this happened. To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. Did this happen only in the account you were updating, or did this impact multiple accounts? Was there anything that happened immediately before the data disappeared?
Since data files should not spontaneously lose data, I suggest that you try validating your data file. Please save a backup file prior to performing these steps.
Validate:
- File
- Validate and Repair File...
- Validate File
- Click OK
- Close the Data Log
- Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
- Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.
Please note that doing this troubleshooting can help track down issues with a file, but will not be able to restore any data that was lost.
I look forward to your response!

In this investing account, did you end up with an empty register and a zero balance, or was the register replaced by a dashboard with 4 big rectangles?
If it is a dashboard, the account has been switched to Simple tracking mode, which is easy to recover from. Click on the gear at the top right of the account and select Edit account details. Then under Tracking method, select Complete and the register should be restored.

First a register with repeated entries of with the same date and 0 - as if all transactions had been converted to that date and amount, then a totally empty register and zero balance. I did discover that when I closed out the Quicken app, and then opened it later, that all the correct transactions were still there, so in the end I didn't have to redo all my work.

It was only the specific account I was working on at the time that showed this behavior, but it happened twice - with two accounts. I think right before it happened I was asked if I wanted to save changes, but I'm not certain.
I haven't validated the data file yet, but will do so later today.

Twice, I’ve had all transactions in an investment account I was viewing change to all MiscExp transactions. Like for you, closing and restarting Quicken showed the correct data. Seems to me to be a not-reproducible UI issue. Happened with R61.xx, if I recall correctly.

I did validate the file, and discovered three future dated transactions (July, 2025) in the accounts. I certainly did not input them and have no idea where they came from, so I deleted them. I did file a report, but was unable to submit any log files.
