Computer didn't shut down normally (Quicken related)

Yesterday I ran an OSU without issue. I then closed Quicken and did some other usual things in my computer. About an hour later I went to shut down the computer. Clicked on "Shut Down", as usual, and the computer started the shut down normally. A message appeared that basically said the shut down won't complete because the Quicken Update installation hasn't finished yet.
My Quicken has ran, and is running, the latest update for a long time now ( R62.16 ) and no update was even available. My updates only install if I tell them to run.
The shut down message never said the Quicken update installed so I had to finally click the option to shut down anyway. Then the computer shut down.
So, when running an OSU are updates done in the back end by Quicken (or Intuit) without prompt or notification?
Windows 11 (2 separate computers)..... Quicken Premier.. HAVE USED QUICKEN CONTINUOUSLY SINCE 1985.

Hello @retird,
Thanks for reaching out!
Just to clarify a bit more about what happened: when you ran your One Step Update earlier, did you notice any kind of Quicken background task lingering in Task Manager afterward, or did Quicken close cleanly as usual? Also, do you happen to have “Automatically download and install updates” enabled in your Quicken settings, even if you typically choose to install manually? Sometimes that setting can get toggled without realizing it, especially after a patch.
It’s also possible the shutdown prompt was triggered by a temporary install file or background process that got stuck, even if no actual update was being applied. Have you seen that message more than once, or was it a one-time thing? And just to help rule things out, do you use any antivirus or system optimization tools that might be monitoring app updates in the background?
Let me know!

@Quicken Jasmine , Noticed no background task lingering in TM and Quicken closed as normal. I have not had "automatically download and install updates" enabled for years now.
I have no idea why this occured and why. That is why I asked the following question:
So, when running an OSU are updates done in the back end by Quicken (or Intuit) without prompt or notification?

Thanks for the follow-up and for clarifying your settings—especially regarding automatic updates being disabled.
To answer your question: no, Quicken (or Intuit) does not push updates silently during an OSU (One Step Update). OSU should always be initiated by the user and strictly pulls financial data based on your enabled accounts. While certain connection types (like Express Web Connect) rely on services managed by Intuit, those background processes are related solely to account data aggregation—not product updates. Any program update, patch, or install should always prompt you, unless you’ve manually enabled automatic updates, which you’ve said is not the case here.
Let me know if you noticed anything specific during the OSU that felt unusual—we can dig into that more if needed.
