HUGE crash in Quicken Windows
Reported, of course.
During OSU, Quicken closed. Always indicative of a crash. I reopened, did OSU. Partway in went to Syncing Bills With the Cloud or similar dialog. After that, Quicken reported 3 credit card accounts had been deleted.
Right or wrong, I tried to restore from yesterday's backup. No change.
Each CC account required something different to restablish. One just allowing biller to reauthorize. Two required adding as if a new biller and linking to exisitng. All seem OK now, but where Elan Financial Serives Online Biller is degraded and still pending in MAC, it WAS working in Windows still. Now is Pending in Windows as well.
No idea what caused all this. Obviously concerning.
Posting as a question in case anyone wants to discuss or anyone has thoiughts why the crash in the first place,

A side effect of the crash brought back something that bugs me - Clicking Update Now goes to Update Settings instead of opening an update window. This was happening a long time ago and was fixed in an update. Back after this crash.

@Bob. I have found that if you run an OSU more than once during a Quicken session, it will show that update settings screen before it runs the OSU, on the 2nd update and thereafter. If you restart Quicken, it will then run the OSU without the update settings screen the first time you run an OSU.

I have had the same issue for over six months now, but Quicken will not fix it. Clicking on Update Now, no longer runs the OSU, but instead takes you to the Settings page. Very annoying. It does not matter if I run it once, twice or thrice. The Update Now button does not do what it is supposed to do.

Totally agree for "most" of the 18 years or so I have been running Quicken @CaliQkn . A few years ago that changed (for me at least) and it ALWAYS opened the OSU Settings rather than performing an OSU. That was fixed maybe a year later? It is back as of yesterday.
FWIW when I went to reboot yesterday I found I had a stuck process "qwpatch.exe" I had to kill. I do not know if that caused the issue, or was a result of the issue. Or if it waorked or not. I had to kill it to reboot.

@binary512 Thanks. Nice to know it is not only me :) See my previous reply.

@Bob. Quicken is a very complicated program. Sometimes trying to continually fix an issue, or get Quicken to do what you want, just makes things worse by "breaking" other things. This is especially true if you are too quick to make a change or "experiment". Having to halt Quicken via Task Manager can cause issues and/or is indicative of an issue in Quicken. It gets to the point where you are continually chasing after issues.
Always have a good backup and make backups frequently. If you start having issues or if Quicken just doesn't seem to be working right, be ready to restore a good backup.

It wasn't Quicken. It was a patch. I do not know what called the patch. Could have been a lot of things.
And no other choice but to kill the process. If you could not reboot the computer because of this stuck process, what would you do?
The crash occurred long before this.
Restoring from backup "may" have made things worse. I ALWAYS have a backup.
Just to restate, although I appreciate the advice, I have been using this for 18-20 years. Have been through dozens of issues.
In this case, spontaneous crash. It occurred in ntdll. I have the event saved.
It caused 3 credit cards to show as accounts deleted. That is when I tried restoring from backup. It brought back a formerly fixed bug of ALWAYS going to OSU settings rather than OSU. And it dsconnected the online biller Elan Financial Services, though they are degraded.
All facts above. With the exception of Elan and OSU settings, everything seems back.

Crashed again today in windows. Restore from backup resynced cloud causing me to have to reauthroize and link 4-6 accounts. Nasty….
Report sent, of course.
Finding Mac more reliable. Go figure.

And one more crash again. Seems I cannot edit an online biller without a lot of accounts showing account deleted. AND…
SOME Online Billers changed from ENTER to PAY. I KNOW there was a fix for this, but cannot find it. Anyone?…
I am thinking reinstalling Quicken might help. Mac is running well except for one degraded biller. So this Windows only.
Can I get the latest buiild and install over the exisitng Windows Quicken? Is it likely to help?
@Quicken Kristina or other @Quicken folks, can you help comment with Enter vs Pay and reinstalling? I would like to get my billers straight agin and they are very touchy now. I do not believe the isues are with my file, but rather Quicken.
All crashes reported and Windows Event Log also sent with the reports.
