Transactions for Loan accounts in Savings Account

I am running Quicken Classic Version R62.16 Build 271.62.16 Windows 11 HomeMy bank is Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union
Last night I tried to update my quicken file, but it came back with an error (can’t remember the number) that said, in summary, that I must have restored from a backup that was missing an account. (I did not restore from a backup.) I was instructed to click the ‘fixit’ link.
After clicking the ‘fixit’ link, Quicken came back with the same message, but my paid off Signature loan file was added to the restore. Again, it wanted me to click the ‘fixit’ link.
Clicked it again and my Share Savings account came up with a nice balance – however, not a true balance. It shows a balance of $6,509.97 and in reality, it is $209.97. I have no idea how to fix this.
I think I had to do a ‘fixit’ again and this time I had my Credit Card loan account.
So, I examined the Savings account and discovered that all my transactions for my Signature loan and Credit Card loan accounts went to the Savings account as payments and DEPOSITS. No wonder my Savings account balance is way out. See Image1.jpg attached.

And with each Fixit, the hole got deeper …
Recommend you restore your Quicken data file from a backup taken just before the problem occurred.
If, during Fixit, you ever get to a screen showing a list of all the accounts found at your bank, be sure to correctly LINK the accounts found at the bank to their matching account registers in your file. If you don't link correctly you get what you described above: transactions appearing in the wrong accounts.0 -
What has happened to Quicken? Has it has gone completely berserk since May 31st. I have been using Quicken since it was still in DOS and it has never failed until June 1, 2025. I updated my file on June 1st and got the CC-800 error and of course the ‘fix’ does not have anything to do with my situation. I tried it, but it didn’t do anything to fix my problem. I have been struggling ever since to get back to some something close to my bank statement.
I did a bit of analysis and saw that my SIGNATURE LOAN was treated as something to do with my SHARE SAVINGS ACCOUNT. I don’t know how that association came about but when I made a payment to my SIGNATURE LOAN, it posted to my PRIORITY CHECKING and SIGNATURE LOAN accounts, and funny thing, it made a TRANSFER: SELF SERVICE TRANSFER to my SHARE SAVINGS. Getting a lot of runs on that money. This is throwing my SHARE SAVINGS way off. Also, in the Payment column on the Share Savings account, 38.59, 26.82 – I suppose that is interest? Because on the Signature Loan side it’s on the Deposit column. All so confusing.
If I can get this part straightened out, maybe I can see what else is going on. I would appreciate any advice on what to do with this situation.

My last backup is too old. I'll have to admit that I don't take regular backups so I missed the boat there. Lesson learned too late.
The last one I have is from April 6th. Guess I'll have to go with that one and see what I can do.
Thank you.

That was the latest backup in the folder also.
So I restored that backup and I'm pretty much in the same place. Looks like my Priority checking account was accepted ok but share savings and credit card have the circle with the line through. I clicked on the share savings account circle to add it back, popup window to connect to Gateway Metro came up - I added Gateway Metro User ID and Password, (I think I'm reading that correctly), press connect and I get CC-501 Having a problem. Unable to connect to Quicken servers. Try again in a few hours. Well, I did this last night and got this error, and again this morning so I may be reading this wrong? Or…?

@rdehne - in your original post, you indicated that transactions were messed up and seemed to be in the wrong accounts and or balances were off. Is that still the case?
Here are some steps to take to try to attempt to get your accounts back up and running -
- Make a backup of your data file. Also, make backups during this process, just in case you need to go back a step.
- In the Account List, check the “Transaction Download” columnand make note of any accounts using EWC+ for connection method. You will need this information in a later step.
- Validate your data file. Click on File→Validate and Repair File, then select "Validate". Click "OK". Review the "Validate & Repair log" for any messages that need to be acted upon.
- Super Validate your data file. Same as step #2, except hold Ctrl-Shift when clicking on "Validate and Repair File".
- Do a Quicken "Copy File" to create a copy of your data file. This process forces a rewrite of code and fixes some file corruption issues. It will also clear out online connection "remnants" for all accounts. Click on File→Copy or Backup File, and select "Create a copy or template", and then click Next.
- On the next screen, leave the defaults as is. You can change the new file name and location, if you wish. Click on "Save Copy".
- During the copy process, you will be asked to provide a password for the new file. If you don't want a password, hit ESC.
- When the process completes, switch over to the new file. For each account, on the General tab in Account Details, blank out the Financial Institution Name and Account Number.
- For EWC+ accounts, go to each of your financial institutions’ websites and log into your online banking account. Locate the section where connected apps or third-party access is managed and make sure to unlink or disconnect Quicken from your accounts on the bank’s end. This may be listed under "Security," "Settings," or "Authorized Apps" depending on the institution. If you do not see a link or a third-party authorization, it may have already been deleted by the deactivation process in Quicken.
- Reactivate online services for all accounts in the new data file, by using “Add Account” and carefully linking to existing accounts in Quicken. Do not use “Set up now” on the Online Services tab of Account Details.
After these steps are done, there might still be some cleanup and reconciliation that needs to be done to get your accounts up to date.
0 - Make a backup of your data file. Also, make backups during this process, just in case you need to go back a step.

I think there is a problem with Quicken. I'm having the same problems with my current backup as with a backup before this all happened. I'm beginning to believe Quicken has changed their coding and they are now trying to change everyone's files to match their new coding. It's like we're being sabotaged.
This is why I never wanted to get subscriptions to software of any kind - especially financial software. I never wanted to depend upon web driven programs to keep my records - they are NOT dependable. Now look where I am. Can't even get a check register with my transactions to balance with my bank. This is so frustrating! I do wish I could find an old software program to do my checking like before this subscription stuff came along.

#10. Reactivate online services: The only 2 options are Savings and Checking. The Signature Account is a LOAN account. This is not a Savings and not a Checking account. I don't know how to answer this.
I had a loan from the bank for $6,300 (on my signature) and they called it a Signature Loan. That is all this is. It is definitely not a Savings account.
Also, should it be linked to Quicken or Linked to the Existing Account? I don't know. I'm tempted to say no. I think this is where it got messed up because it is NOT a SAVINGS ACCOUNT,

You would link your accounts at the financial institution with your existing accounts already set up in Quicken.
As for your LOAN showing up with an account type of Savings or Checking, I am not sure how you would deal with that. Are you absolutely sure it is a loan account? Could it be a line of credit account or HELOC? Did you have it set up as an online loan account on Quicken previously?
