Macy's Credit Card (Amex) keeps reporting "connection issues" over past week

I've been having issues with Macy's credit card account that worked fine until the last week. I now get an error/warning that "Macy's Credit Card is reporting connection issues. The associated accounts can't update right now. We are investigating the issue." (see screenshot below). I tried Resetting and then Add the account but keep having the same issue.

Also, Macy's uses an American Express card which could be related to other mentioned issues posting in the Discussion boards.

Is there any context or ETA of when this might be resolved?

I've been getting this same error message since about 6/1 but it also said that Quicken was investigating the issue so I did not post about it here and did not report it via Report A Problem. Here is a picture of the error message I get….note that I get error code CC-503, not CC-502 as mentioned in the Alert.:

I had this issue with two of my cards. One was resolved by following the instructions on the site linked below. This procedure worked for the card that only received the connection issue message. It did not work for the card that received the connection issue and the CC-502.

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it did not fix my Macy's Amex connection issue above. 😔

So bizarre. Yesterday, it seemed to be resolved for me. Today, it's broken again, this time with a different error code. I confirmed I can access the account on their website.

I was just able to reconnect a Macy's credit card so this issue may be resolved.

I still cannot get my Macy's card reconnected. I tried setting up the connection in both my primary file and in a unique test file with the same consistent results….CC-503 error code (it originally was CC-502 when this issue first started at the beginning of this month).

@Boatnmaniac I just figured out my problem this morning, and it may be yours, too. If you've just received new cards from Macy's, log in to your online account and confirm receipt (via a prompt) when you attempt to review your credit card account. Once you do, try to reconnect in Quicken. That finally resolved it for me.

Let me know how it turns out.

Good suggestion but I have not received a new Macy's Amex card in the last couple of years. Even after Macy's canceled the Macy's dual card aspect (where the card functioned as both a Macy's store card and an Amex retail card) last July they did not replace my card with a new one. I even logged into my online account today and found no link or prompt asking me to activate a new card.

Also, the CC-502/CC-503 error code issue started for me about June 1st which was about the same time that others reported having this issue. Prior to that it was working well with Quicken's OSU.

BTW, I just tried setting up the card for OSU, again, and it failed, again….same error code.

Oh, well, I haven't been using this card a lot and since this issue began I've entirely stopped using it. I can wait it out.

Update (June 20): I was able to successfully add my Macy's Amex account. I received my new card last week and added it to my Macy's wallet then removed my old card. Not sure if that helped or if the Quicken technical team fixed the issue under the hood but it is working now!

A several months ago Macy's turned over management of their credit cards (including their Amex card) from Amex to Citi Retail Services. This change has been rather transparent both on the Macy's website and in Quicken.

But today I noticed that when accessing my online Macy's Amex card in the Macy's website and clicking on some of the settings for that card I was pushed to a Citi Retail Services website. I don't recall seeing that before. It makes me wonder if this might be the cause behind the CC-502/CC-503 error's. In the past (earlier this year) when there has been similar migrations with other Citi Retail Services cards it seemed that successful Quicken setup for OSU was staggered with some users getting OSU service restored earlier than others.

So, it makes me wonder if a similar situation is occurring now with the Macy's Amex card and that maybe Citi is sending out new "Citi" Amex cards on a staggered basis to card holders. Of course, this is just speculation but it would explain why some are starting to get set up for OSU, again, while others are not.

Great. As of this morning, this is broken again. Needless to say, this recurring issue is more than a little frustrating. I guess it's too much to ask for a few months of uninterrupted service?

I was fine as of June 28, but today I'm also getting the CC502 error. It looks like the problem is on the Citi side (they manage the Macy's cards).

  • Macy's offers two different credit cards -

    Macy’s store card

    Macy’s American Express Card

I have the Macy's store card and have had no connection issues. I tried updating it just now and it works just fine. So then is the issue just with the Macy's American Express Card? Do both cards use the same FI?
