How to switch from one step update to manual import

I’m overwhelmed by all the issues with bank connections—it's just not working as intended. One day everything looks fine, the next day my transactions are completely off. Then there’s an update and no connection at all, then duplicate transactions show up, and another day my beginning balances randomly change. I feel like I’m constantly reconciling, and it’s driving me crazy. I use Chase and Wells Fargo and I don't even have that many accounts. All I want is for my activity to show up properly in the ledger. It's such a small ask.

For those of you who use manual import by downloading the Quicken file from your bank: what date range do you typically use to avoid duplicates, especially for credit cards that don't have calendar month statements? I have a high volume of credit card transactions and can’t realistically enter them manually, but I’m trying to pivot to importing directly from the bank instead of relying on the connection that doesn't work.

Any tips would be really appreciated.

Once you are past the initial change in download methods, duplicates should not be a problem since Quicken prevents that through the use of the FITID field which is unique to each transaction. When you do the first download for each account, you should be asked which account to use, DO NOT pick ADD, you will want to link them to the correct existing account. The subsequent downloads should match up to the correct account automatically.

I use Web Connect, .QFX, file downloads for all of my banking and credit card accounts. I suggest not using Accept All when accepting the transactions, just my opinion.
