Constant Quicken Crashing
I'm getting constant crashes in Quicken right now. Module name ntdll.dll. Anyone experience this before? Is it a symptom of a corrupt data file? I uninstalled and reinstalled Quicken, and that appeared to help briefly, but I'm back to experiencing the issue again.

If you haven't done so already, please do the following actions:
- Even if you are on the latest software level already, download and install the latest Manual Patch file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product to ensure your Quicken software is up to date and correctly installed.
- Reboot Windows. Let Windows fully wake up and do whatever it wants to do after booting up … 15 minutes or so.
- Start Quicken. Do not run One Step Update.
- Run BOTH Validate and Supervalidate to attempt to repair your Quicken data file.
- If nothing helps, try to restore your Quicken data file from an Automatic or Manual backup taken just prior to the problems first occurring.
Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
Validate:
• Click File
• Select Validate and Repair File...
• Select Validate File
• If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
• If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
• Click OK
• Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
• Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
• Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.Super Validate:
• Click File
• Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
• Select Supervalidate File
• Click OK
• Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
• Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
• Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.0 -
@recursor1 ntdll.dll is a critical core Windows system file. If it is corrupted it can cause crashes.
Step-by-Step: Fix Corrupted System Files
1. Run System File Checker (SFC)
This tool scans and repairs protected system files.
sfc /scannow
- How to run:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator (*see instructions below)
- Type the command above and press Enter
- What it does:
- Verifies integrity of system files
- Replaces corrupted files with cached copies
2. Use DISM (Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool)
If SFC can’t fix everything, DISM can repair the Windows image itself.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- How to run:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator (if open already no need to re-open)
- Run the command above
- What it does:
- Connects to Windows Update to download clean system files
- Repairs the underlying system image that SFC relies on
*To Run the Command Prompt as an Administrator
- Click the Start button or press the Windows key.
- Type "cmd" or "command prompt"
- Right-click on Command Prompt in the search results.
- Select Run as administrator.
I have run these commands in Windows several times. They may take a while to complete and it's important to wait until they are done.
1 - How to run:

I agree with the other users’ comments here — both the Quicken file validation steps and the Windows system file repair commands are good next steps to try.
Please let us know:
- What you see in the Validate and Supervalidate Data Logs.
- If running SFC and DISM finds or repairs anything.
- Whether these troubleshooting steps help reduce or stop the crashes.
Your results will help us narrow down whether this is related to your Quicken data file, the installation, or Windows system files.
Thanks!

I resolved the issue by uninstalling quicken, but I'm having other weird problems now. I'm probably gonna move my file to another computer and see if it is functional there, then maybe do an OS reinstall with my current laptop if the file isn't corrupted or anything.

It turns out my file was corrupted. I'm in the process of rebuilding it.
