Product activation error: "The call to the subscription service failed..."

I'm a longtime user (Quicken Classic Deluxe for Windows), and my subscription is expiring soon. I'm using version R63.21. I have "autorenew" turned off. I've never had trouble before renewing with activation codes. Yesterday I purchased a retail box (with enclosed keycard) from a major retailer since I had a gift certificate there. This is not the "new users" version. When I enter the 16-character activation code, I keep getting this error message:

"The call to the subscription service failed. Please try again later."

So I have tried many times last night and today. I have tried activating inside the Quicken program interface using the Help>Manage Subscription>Enter activation code method, and I've also tried on the Quicken.com website with 2 different browsers. Both methods produce the same error message. I'm using wired Ethernet and not using a VPN when trying. Any suggestion as to why this is happening and a cure? Thanks!

I am seeing the same issue and have been for a week. And support has decided to be customer hostile and only allow contacting them during the business hours instead of allowing email or other asynchronous reporting structures it is annoying.
