Ability to Create Sub-Accounts

Currently Quicken does not have the ability to create Sub-Accounts. For example, when you have a Checking account, Savings account, etc. it all goes under "Banking".

What if we have 3 types of accounts (Checking, Savings, High Yield Savings) each with multiple institutions:

  1. Citibank
  2. Bank of America
  3. Well Fargo
  4. PenFed Credit Union
  5. Navy Federal Credit Union

Quicken will just groups all of them under "Banking". It would be nice to have everything fall under "Accounts" group with Sub-accounts named as follows:

  1. Citibank (containing Checking, Savings, High Yield Savings)
  2. Bank of America (containing Checking, Savings, High Yield Savings)
  3. Well Fargo (containing Checking, Savings, High Yield Savings)
  4. PenFed Credit Union (containing Checking, Savings, High Yield Savings)
  5. Navy Federal Credit Union (containing Checking, Savings, High Yield Savings)

In addition have each sub-account with a Total value for all accounts under that sub-account and "Accounts" itself would be the total of all sub-accounts like you do with "Banking" now.

I suggest this because not everyone just has one checking and one savings with just one institution.

    Those are NOT sub-accounts. They're separate accounts, with separate statements at Citi, BofA, Wells, etc.

    I'd vote against this if such were possible.

    I think the term sub-accounts isn’t being used in the way most people would interpret it.

    I believe the actual request is to allow the groupings on the account bar to be customized, with a folder tree format.

    This has been requested a few times here and there over the years.

    Correct, Quicken does the tree format where Accounts has Banking, Investing, Property & Debt, Savings Goals, etc. under it, but no ability to create groups (buckets) under Banking for example. Having a bucket under Banking for each institution you have that in turn branches out with each product you have with those institutions. The idea is very similar to how Quicken already does Categories. They just need to apply that same methodology to everything that falls under Accounts.
