Reauthorize my financial institution connection(s)?

I would appreciate some sort of prior notification and justification for needing to reauthorize my financial institution connections. Just coming out of the blue in a dialogue box makes me wonder if your server is compromised. I get requests asking me to reauthorize or verify my accounts all the time and we all know that they're suspect. I find it rather puzzling since I use my connections regularly. Again, I find it strange; especially with no explanation.

Can anyone explain the need to me?

Financial institutions require your permission to share your data with Quicken and Intuit, Quicken's "aggregator," when you first set up an Express Web Connect + (EWC+) connection.

From time to time, often annually, they require you reauthorize, confirming that you still want to share your data.

It is a security thing, to reduce the chance that someone is trying to steal your data.

I have found that sometimes the updates fail with an obscure error message rather than prompting me to reauthorize. It would certainly be nice if this process worked more smoothly.

Interesting, but this is the first time Quicken has asked for re-authorization/verification unilaterally. I was asked, by both Quicken and Chase, contemporaneously, when Chase changed its system. I've been using Quicken since Intuit bought MoneyCounts in 1995, more than a day or two.

My reasoning was simple: a dialogue box with no warning wants me to re-authorize/verify an account. I asked Fidelity and they knew nothing; trying to communicate directly with Quicken support is slow so I asked the community. I still won't follow the link until Quicken support responds to an email. I've been retired now for 14 years and the number of cold calls, unsolicited texts and emails astonishes me today.
