Column width adjustment in Split Register
I doubt that this is a new idea. It is frustrating though. I've been using Quicken for about a week now. I used Quicken for the Mac early on until they stopped making it for the Mac. I then switched to Banktivity from 2003 until now. I decided to switch back to Quicken because Banktivity has some frustrating things that they have never addressed in 20 years.
So now back to Quicken… I love everything so far except 1) the Split Register (which I use for credit card transactions). You cannot remove columns you don't need (like transfer). Also you cannot adjust the width of the columns. I need more room for the Memo/Notes column. 2) I find it annoying that I cannot have two registers open simultaneously. I was able to do that in Banktivity. I take care of my husband's checkbook on a separate file and I need to be able to transfer transactions from his Split Register to mine and vice versa, as I have a small business and I need to make journal entries. Maybe instead of two registers open at the same time, take that "transfer" column and give it more valuable functionality. Let that column allow transfers to/from another Quicken file! 3) "Drag and Drop" transactions inside the Split Register would be nice.

@marindee Welcome back to the world of Quicken Mac. I think you're already finding that no software has every feature everyone wants, and that Quicken Mac has a long list of feature requests which the development team has yet to address. The good news is that they are listening, and they are adding new features; the bad news is that the wishlist is long, and the progress is frustratingly slow! 😂
I can address your three items individually. First, you mention being able to configure the split register or panel, and this is one of my Top 10 peeves/wishes for Quicken developers as well! I find it frustrating not to be able to expand the Memo field, or to remove the Tags field if I'm not using it. I believe the splits panel should simple match the register itself, in field inclusion, order and width; this would be pleasant aesthetically and a big functional improvement. There is an existing Idea thread for such changes, and you should add your vote (and comment) in this thread (click "View Post" below):
That Idea currently has a status of "Under Consideration" because it has received a total of 56 votes, but the developers have not yet committed to putting this on their implementation schedule. More votes and comments can potentially help push that along. (But know that it likely isn't coming sometime soon. 😪)
Second, you definitely can have two (or more) account registers open at once. Double click the account name in the left sidebar, and it will open in a new, separate window. you can open several account windows, or juggle between one independent window and the main window. The issue is juggling the size and position of the windows on your screen to be useful for whatever you're trying to do, but on an iMac or decently large external monitor, this is certainly viable. (Not so much on a 13" laptop, though! 😂).You also mention having two separate data files open at one time, and you're correct that this is not currently possible. The way Quicken accesses external preferences files makes this not feasible unless they redesign that aspect of Quicken Mac specifically to allow multiple open data files. There is an existing Idea topic for this functionality request, so I suggest adding your vote and comments here:
Finally, you asked for "'Drag and Drop' transactions inside the Split Register", and here I'm not sure I understand your request. A split is part of a transaction. Do you mean you want to be able to re-arrange the order of splits in a transaction by dragging them up or down? If so, yes, there's an existing Idea topic for that functionality as well 😉, which you should vote for:
If you had something else in mind, please post back to expand on your idea.
(P.S. Friendly advice for the future:, it's best to put just one feature per Idea post, so others can vote on them and the developers understand what is being requested; when you combine three asks in one post, its unclear to the developers what exactly people are voting for. 😀)
