Uncategorized Expenses with no records to back it up (Q Mac)

Hi! Has anyone experienced anything like this on the Quicken for Mac subscription? Video diary here on my Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/open?id=14Uq-tqSjRCeVUMYk3ucv0JddD7888DmL&usp=drive_fs

In a nutshell, Quicken is telling me I have nearly $2500 in Uncategorized expenses for October, but when I click on the detail view, there are no transactions to back up the budget overage. It's throwing my numbers off for the month and I can't figure out how to fix it because there are no line items to recategorize. First time posting here - I appreciate the help. Thanks! 😃

    Hello @Jen6566,

Thank you for sharing your experience, and your screen recording was helpful as well!

I am unable to recreate this in my own budget in Quicken. I have some follow-up questions for you.

    • How long has this issue been happening?
    • If you duplicate your budget, do you see the same issue in the budget copy? Screenshot 2025-11-18 at 11.39.23 AM.png
    • Can you see uncategorized transactions from your account registers? Screenshot 2025-11-18 at 11.41.42 AM.png
    • Where is your file located?
    • Is your file being synced/backed up by any third-party services like iCloud, OneDrive, or Norton?

Let me know what you find.

    Howdy @Jen6566

I thought about your post for 24 hours. I don't have an answer, but merely some random musings as to what might be the issue. (Your video was helpful.)

The one month view of the budget is an older carryover from a legacy program, and some people have reported issues with it. But, I don't know if that is the problem here. I don't think so. Do you also see this oddity when looking at the 12 month view? I suspect you might.

Quicken Budgets only look for assigned categories, so it shouldn't pull anything you haven't setup. And I have never seen it look for "Uncategorized" transactions. And by "Uncategorized", I mean transactions that have a blank category.

This makes me wonder if you have an actual Category "Uncategorized" setup in your Category list, and your budget is looking for that (transactions with an actual category typed in of "Uncategorized".)

Your budget video shows that you have one-especially when you click on the bar graph and it shows the report with 1 category in the search-which shows no transactions.

I would go into Edit Budget at the top (which will take you to the 12 month view.) Do you see that category listed with a goal? It really looks like you have this setup as a budget goal, but with no transactions, so hence the difference. Your bar graph in the video is empty showing nothing.

    Let me know your findings-thanks!
