Reinstall Quicken 2016 Deluxe

I have been using Quicken 2016 Deluxe for years. My computer crashed and I lost everything. I do have a back up file but it won't do any good without the Quicken program on my new computer. How do I download the program again. I already bought it years ago and shouldn't have to buy it again.

You can often reinstall a replacement copy of Quicken) without paying again — but success depends download version availability. You can try the following:

    • You might be able to get a replacement copy by going to the official Quicken download page: go to quicken.com/download and choose “installing or reinstalling Quicken.” After download, run the installer. When prompted, sign in with your Quicken ID (the email/password you used when you bought/registered it).
    • Since you have an older non-subscription version, you may need to download a version/patch that matches your 2016 version. Once Quicken is installed, restore your backup data file. This may not work or be a lttle tricky for the following reasons:
    • Sometimes replacements cannot be processed for discontinued versions of Quicken which suggests that older versions might no longer be officially supported/downloadable by Quicken.
    • Many users of Quicken 2016 and older say that reinstalling on a new computer sometimes leads to difficulties: such as blank sign-in screens, patches failing, or the program not activating properly. Even when reinstallation works, online services such as bank downloads and online updates may no longer function, because older versions lose support once they are discontinued.
    • What to do next:
    • Go to quicken.com/download.
    • *Sign in with your Quicken ID (the one you used originally).
    • *Download the Windows installer. Run the installer.
    • *If prompted to enter an Activation Code, use it if you have it — if not, try signing in with your Quicken ID.
    • *Once installed, restore from your backup file.
    • *If the version has problems such as Quicken crashes, blank sign-in, etc), you may need to install a “patch” version.
    • If nothing works — e.g. Quicken 2016 is no longer offered — your next fallback is to contact Quicken Support directly, explain your situation, and see if they can help recover or re-authorize your old license.
    • To avoid all of this agravation and the stress involved, I suggest "biting the bullet" and purchase a subscription. In the old days, programs were mostly “finished products but today software needs security patches, compatibility updates for Windows/macOS changes, cloud service maintenance, ongoing bug fixes, and continuous new features. Subscriptions offered by vendors fund this ongoing development.

@randy@ Buy the modern version. Q2016 can no longer be "validated" by Q's servers because those servers were shut down a LONG time ago and thus it can't be installed.
