Switching to new checking account at same bank, want to merge accounts

Question

Hi using quicken classic for windows. Switching to a new checking account at same bank and use direct connect with bill pay. (Will no longer use old account)  I have to wait till Monday to talk to a person to add bill pay to my new account. In the meantime any help on I can get on merging the two accounts together the easiest way possible would be much appreciated. I tried to do it already, wasn't good … good thing I saved a backup. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for all the quick replys!!. Don't have any auto payments in my old account and have waited about 3 weeks to do this so I think NotaCPA suggestion may be the ticket.

So just to be sure.. after i disconnect downloads, just change the acct number under the general tab of acct details change acct number and reconnect?? That sounds too easy

@Jim_Harman I thought about what you suggested, but I interpreted OP's "(Will no longer use old account)" to mean that such ACH precautions were unneeded,

As an alternative to the recommendation of @NotACPA above, if you have ACH deposits or bills that are automatically paid from the old account, you may want to keep both accounts open and some money in the old account for a few months to make sure all the automatic payments have been switched to the new account.

Once you are sure that the old account is no longer active, you can close that account at the bank and transfer the balance to the new account. When the transfer has cleared in Quicken, you can disconnect the old account from downloading and hide it so that it does not clutter up your Account bar.
