How do I start my balance on a specific date?

In Quicken Classic Starter Edition, is there a way to start a new file from a specific date in terms of account balances? I want to create a new file with the balance of January 1, 2026. I have reviewed the suggested path on this same question from others and, so far, even if I set the start date as Jan 1, 2026 via copy/backup file, it pulls information from the prior year. It is important for my bookkeeping to begin January 1, 2026.

Why? Do you have checks written in 2025 that didn't clear your bank before 12/31?

    How about credit card purchases?

All of those should be in your current/new data file.

And, not matter when the data starts, you can always set your report dates to start on any date, including 1/1.

I believe most people use reports for tracking transactions and other financial data. It is very easy to customize the reports so they show only the current year's data….or whatever year you want. That will not work for you?
