The way deposits, check numbers, and debits are handled needs improvement [Edited]
I am a Quick Books user since 2001; I find 3 Quicken functions counter intuitive and awkward.
1: Deposit. A simple button for DEPOSITS should be incorporated. Bringing up a check then switching categories to make the deposit is counter-intuitive, awkward, and slow.
2: Check numbers. There needs to be a box on the check screen where I can add, change, or use text in the "check number" box. Pressing the "print" button and not being able to edit the number does not work for me. Why? Because, like most people, I run my "debit card" out of my checking account and the check number I use is "debit". That brings me to #3.
3: Debit. Treating a debit as a credit card purchase is well. . . ridiculous! Debits should be linked to the account you use for debits without changing categories on the check screen.
There may be hidden work arounds for my issues but for the life of me I cannot find any yet. I look forward to getting my personal financial application tuned and working smoothly.

Are you entering directly into the checking account register? Because none of those 3 things sound right or makes sense to me. How or where are you entering them? Can you post a screenshot?
I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

@FTCS It appears that you are using the Write Checks function to enter all of your transactions.
The much more common and convenient way to enter banking transactions is to go to directly to the account's register and enter the data there. Normally the register is sorted by date and you enter the information on the blank line at the bottom of the register.
There are 3 related columns for the amount - Payment, Deposit, and Amount. Entering a positive number in the Payment or Deposit column records the transaction as a Withdrawal or a Deposit. If you prefer, you can enter a positive number in the Amount column for deposits or a negative number for withdrawals.
In credit card accounts, the columns are somewhat confusingly called "Charge" for charges and "Payment" for credits or payments to the account, entered as positive numbers. "Amount" is still negative for charges and positive for credits.
