Set Reference Field Value in Reminders

I would like the ability to add a Reference field value when setting up or updating Reminders.
Example: Set a recurring bill or income reminder; in the Details section where Catetgory, Tag and Memo are set, add the ability to set / update the Reference field.

Can you give an example of what you would use the Reference field for?
Could you use the Check number field if that were available? Or put the Reference in the Memo field?
