Add ability to compare two dates, two periods
It would be noice to be able to see the Portfolio value report compared between two user-specified dates. Of course, we can generate two separate reports and compare them, but a single report which shows the Value on one date, on a second date, and the change between them — similar to a Comparison Report for transactions — would be a very useful addition.
The Portfolio Value & Cost Basis report could morph into the type of report being described if it allowed (a) user specified dates and (b) selection of which columns to view. In its current implementation, each date interval shown display f our columns: Cost Basis, Gain Loss amount, Gain Loss percentage, and Market Value. There are too many columns; it's too unwieldy. If we could select columns to view, and select only Market Value, this would be a good comparison report. Then we'd just need the ability to select specific dates rather than date ranges. I can currently select Year To Date range with Interval=Year to see the Market Value compared between December 31 and today. But if I specify Last 12 Months and Interval=Year, I get columns for a year ago, December 31 and today, when I only wanted a year ago and today. And there's no ability to show a Change column to compare between two dates. These improvements would make for much better reporting on investments. The ground work is already in place!
