In investment register, is there a way to get the Category column to display all the time (Edited)

I'm looking for the control that lets me choose which columns to display for my Investment accounts. Specifically, I want to display "Category" column all the time, not just when I highlight a transaction. Thanks.

Win10, Quicken Classic R66.28 - 27.1.66.28

The category doesn't need to appear in the investment register for it to be included in a budget.

While in the budget, click Budget Actions in the upper right corner, Budget Categories and Personal Income.

    _DivInc is an available option.

Try clicking on the account's gear menu, then Investment Preferences and next to List display: select 2 Line. That setting affects all investment accounts.

Is that what you are looking for?

Thanks but no, I already have that. "Category" only appears if you highlight the transaction and disappears when you jump to a different one.

Sorry, you are right. For income and transfers the information is there but not for deposits or withdrawals.

If you would like to see Quicken changed so that the Category field is always displayed in investing registers, you could make an Idea post requesting it. That would let others vote on the idea. It takes about 50 votes for an idea to be considered for implementation, and even then they often languish for years.

Wondering what an all the time visible Category column would enable you to do? Maybe there is another way to accomplish that task.

Also wondering what the Category tells you that the Action column doesn't tell you.

I use "MiscInc" for the dividends paid my my actual stock holdings (vs. the MF holdings, which are the vast majority), and then _QualDivInc as the category … but since that's the only category that I use, seeing "MiscInc" tells me all that I need to know.

Another thought: You could use the confusingly named Banking transaction report, which has the Category column, and also includes investing accounts. You can customize the report to subtotal v\by account and select just the account(s) you want to include.

I'm a bit lazy and want the Category "_DivInc" filled in so I can include it as a Budget/Income entry. But I don't fill Catagories in as I accept downloaded transactions, just go back to fill blank Categories in every few weeks which was why if I could display it all the time for Investments. Need to improve my workflow I guess.

    Thanks everyone🙂
