migrating from Quicken 2015 to new Classic Deluxe

I'm considering migrating from Quicken 2015 (version 2.9.7) to the current Quicken Classic Deluxe. This seems to be the best fit for me. I want desktop software, no need for iPhone, iPad or cloud storage.

Will I need to export my data or will Classic Deluxe simply open my existing data file?

Is there a trial version of Classic Deluxe? Or can I cancel if this doesn't work out for me?

Anything else I should know? Thanks!

    Hello @DeltaOne,

Great questions—this is actually a pretty smooth transition.

You won’t need to export your data. Quicken Classic Deluxe can convert your existing Quicken 2015 file directly. When you install and open the newer version, it will prompt you to select your old file and automatically convert it to the updated format. You can find more detailed instructions on this in this support article.

A couple of quick tips before you do:

    • Make a backup of your current file first (just in case)
    • Don’t delete your old file until you’ve confirmed everything looks correct after conversion

As for trying it out—there isn’t a free trial, but there is a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can request a refund within that window if it doesn’t meet your needs.

Since you mentioned you prefer desktop-only use: that’s totally fine. While all subscription tiers include our mobile or web companion apps, it is not required to use them at all—the software works fully as a standalone desktop application.

    Hope this helps!

@DeltaOne FYI, the current version of Quicken requires macOS 13 (Ventura). Just something to be aware of if you're coming in from an 11 year old version of Quicken and possibly running on hardware that's that old or older.

i want to convert my PC Quicken Classic Premier to my new MacBook Air. Do i buy a new Quicken for Mac?

@KeithFD No, if you have a current Quicken subscription, then it gives you access to Quicken Mac at no additional charge. You download it to your Mac by logging into there account at quicken.com, and downloading it from there.

How do I move the PC database to the MAC

Follow the instructions in these two Quicken help web pages:

    https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-move-my-quicken-data-file-one-computer-another/

    https://www.quicken.com/support/converting-quicken-windows-quicken-mac-2016/

Post back here if anything isn't clear.

Welcome to the Mac world! Just know you will experience some short-term frustration/confusion on how things are done differently, both at the operating system level and with Quicken. It takes some time to work your way up the learning curve, and to reprogram your brain to a different way of doing things.

    @Quicken Anja @jacobs

Thanks for the info. My Mac's operating system is running the latest Tahoe, so no worries there.

I'm curious if there's a way to export the Quicken Memo/Notes field from my Quicken 2015. Before subscribing to the current Quicken desktop I'm giving a spreadsheet a try. My needs are simple and I suspect a spreadsheet would work for me.

Except for the Memo/Notes field, I got all the other data in to a spreadsheet. Is it possible to get the Memo/Notes data out?

    Yes, you can.

In 2015, navigate to a register or an account grouping (such as All Transactions). Any column that is displayed will be exported, so choose which columns (including the Memo/Notes) you wish to export.

    Then:File:Export:Register Transactions to CSV file.

Save, and open in a spreadsheet of your choice.

    Many thanks, that worked perfectly!
