Slow Down Scrolling in Register

Question

Scrolling using the mouse wheel works just fine in all apps other than Quicken — a reasonable pace, but faster than single-clicks on the up or down arrow on the scroll bar.

However, when I scroll in a Quicken register, it moves ridiculously fast.

Why??? And how can I slow this down? It's useless the way it's currently working.

I have been using ChatGPT to troubleshoot this.

Issue: When using the mouse to scroll, sometimes one notch scrolls one transaction normally and other times it scrolls 20-30 transactions or runs away completely until a mouse click stops the action.

Other Considerations: I am using Quicken on a widescreen monitor with scale set to the recommended 125%.

Key Findings:

* Mouse is already set to scroll one line at a time.
* Run away scrolling only happens in Quicken, not in other apps.

* When trying to do a video screen capture of the Quicken window using Snagit, the behavior ceases.

ChatGPT Theory: It points instead to a timing/rendering issue between:

* Quicken
* Windows graphics rendering
* display acceleration/compositing
* Logitech scroll message timing

Screen recording changes how Windows renders the application:

* it often disables certain GPU optimizations
* forces synchronized redraws
* slows rendering slightly
* changes event timing

That commonly “fixes” race-condition style UI bugs temporarily.

This makes the most likely causes:

* GPU acceleration/rendering issue
* High DPI scaling issue
* Logitech smooth scrolling timing interaction
* Windows compositor issue with Quicken

Current Troubleshooting: Disable Hardware Graphics Optimization for Quicken

* Close Quicken
* C:\Program Files\Quicken
* Right-click:* Quicken.exe

* Choose:* Properties

* Compatibility tab
* Click:* “Change high DPI settings”

Try enabling:

* “Override high DPI scaling behavior”
* Scaling performed by:* Application

Click OK.

Then ALSO try:

* “Disable fullscreen optimizations”

Apply and restart Quicken.

Status: I have implemented the suggested changes and will observe Quicken behavior.

I'm not seeing this either. I have a Logitech M510 mouse using the Microsoft driver on a 2560x1440 100% display, and each "detent" on the scroll wheel is exactly one transaction in Quicken.  Changing to 1400x1050 gives the same result.  Tried Large Fonts and got the same result.

What I do notice is that the mouse settings don't affect what Quicken does for scrolling.  This isn't a surprise to me, and most likely is at the bottom of why you are having problems only in Quicken.

Quicken being a very old program tends of be using very old API calls in certain places. When the comes to "mouse movements", this can mean that if functions differently than other programs that are using the more modern API calls.

If you aren't using the Microsoft mouse driver you might try it just to see if that changes the behavior.

No, the mouse cursor does not change.

No, I do not move the mouse when I am scrolling.

I've worked in IT for decades. I know how to use a mouse.  Like I said, this is only an issue in Quicken.

I've reviewed the mouse settings — multiple times.

I've watched for patterns — sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
