Cannot connect to my credit union. I use quicken to reconcile my checking account

I used to export transactions and then import them into Quicken. Now I cannot do that, I get the message Quicken is currently unable to verify the financial institution information for this download. If I try Express Web Connect, I get the error message We encountered an error connecting to your bank. I have canceled my renewal with Quicken. I have talked to Quicken and my financial institution, and no help. My financial institution in "Consumer Credit Union" in Tennessee. Any ideas that will help?

By "export transaction", do you mean that you initiate that at the CU's website, download it and then import into Q? Which would be known in Q as "Web Connect".

But, assuming that this is the FI you're talking about:

They don't appear to support "Web Connect", only "Express Web Connect" which you can initiate from within Q on your computer … so why aren't you using that?

BUT, if your profile is correct, that you're running Q2017, all ability to download into that product ended about 6 years ago … so you won't be able to download from the CU at all until you upgrade to a newer product.

Thank you for letting us know you're encountering an issue. To help troubleshoot, I checked our internal tools, and I can see that you're getting a CC-505 when you're trying to connect with the financial institution.

To troubleshoot the issue, please follow these steps from our article on CC-505 errors:

First, wait one business day

This error message is typically caused by a temporary issue on your bank's servers. You can try updating again in a few hours or the next business day.

Second, if waiting one day does not resolve the issue

Try refreshing your online account information:

1. From your account register, select the Actions gear icon at the very top right of your register (Ctrl + Shift + N).

2. Select Update Now.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

4. Repeat these steps for each financial institution experiencing this error.

If the issue persists

Try the steps above again the next business day. If the problem continues for over 48 hours contact Quicken Support for assistance.

I have done all this even reinstalled my quicken. I was on line with support for an extended period of time with no hekp

It appears that your Credit Union has instructed Intuit Inc. as the download service provider to update their user profile. Now QFX file downloads are no longer supported, even though the bank's website still allows you to create QFX files.

Catch-22.
I concur with @NotACPA 's earlier comment. You should try to use One Step Update (or "Update Now" from the account register) to download recent transactions.

I can see that you contacted Support a few days ago about getting a CC-503 when attempting to connect. The issue was escalated (ticket # 12395424) and came back with a recommendation to use the Consumer Credit Union connection option, not the Consumers Credit Union (IL) connection option.

When I check our internal tools, I see that when you try using the Consumer Credit Union connection option, you get a CC-505 error.

If the troubleshooting for the CC-505 error that I posted earlier does not correct the issue, please reach out to Quicken Support directly for further assistance. They have tools we can't access on the Community, and they can escalate the issue as needed. The Quicken Support phone number can be found through this link here. Phone support is available from 5:00 am PT to 5:00 pm PT, Monday through Friday.

That error message looks like the error you get when you try to connect using Direct Connect. Did it ask you for Login ID and Security Code or Login ID and Password?

If it asked for Login ID and Security Code, then you were trying to connect via Direct Connect. If that is your preferred way to connect, then you may need to contact Consumer Credit Union to find out what you need to do to authorize the connection.

If you do not want to connect using Direct Connect, then you can click Advanced Options, near the lower left (next to the Cancel button).

Until your credit union fixes its connectivity issues, there may be a temporary workaround so that the downloads can be imported.

From my experience, if you get the message "Quicken is currently unable to verify the financial institution information for this download" means that the QFX file downloaed has incorrect financial institution data in it. You can edit the QFX file with a text editor like Notepad to correct that and successfully import it. What you need to look for is something like this:

The above information can be fund in Quicken's fidir.txt file. For the above credit union, the fidir.txt entry looks like:

Notice "BANKING&WEB-CONNECT". That indicates that QFX files with this institution's information will only work for "banking" accounts. It won't work for credit card accounts.

There is another fidir.txt entry for Mid-Atlantic:

02981 02981 02981 Mid-Atlantic FCU Credit Card https://www.mafcu.org 301-944-1800 https://onlinebanking.mafcu.org/mafcuonline_41/uux.aspx#/login ACTIVE CREDIT&WEB-CONNECT BANKING,CREDIT,ACCOUNTINFO&EXP-WEB-CONNECT NOT_QBP NA

Notice: CREDIT&WEB-CONNECT. That indicates that QFX files with this institution's information will only work for "credit" accounts. It won't work for "banking" accounts. For Quicken to be able to process a QFX file for a credit card account, it would need to have this:

From time to time, Mid-Atlantic has confused the two and put the wrong fidir.txt info into its QFX file..
