Quicken Classic deluxe for windows duplicate bank account

A week ago, when I was doing a one-step update, I got a message that my financial institution, I use Bank of America, needed an update.

I did the bank login as requested and now I have 2 accounts. under "Banking"

I don't understand how this happened. I tried doing the one step update again and it still gives me the same message.

Can I merge the two accounts?

Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. When reauthorizing an account, sometimes Quicken doesn't see the correct account to link it to and adds it as new instead. To correct the issue, there are a couple of options.

The first option is to backup your Quicken file, delete the duplicate account, then deactivate the original account. Once it's deactivated, reconnect it by navigating to Tools>Add Account and following the prompts. When you get to the Add/Link screen in Quicken, carefully link the account to the existing account in Quicken.

The second option is to leave the newly account account connected, backup your file, and cut/paste the history from the original account into the new one. Since there may be some overlap between the two accounts, be careful not to copy over any transactions that are already in the new account. Note: You may need to edit or delete the opening balance in the new account, since it would have been created based on the information provided by the financial institution when it was connected. Once all the data is moved into the new account and everything looks correct, backup your file and delete the original account.
