I have read a number of posts on the topic of phantom/notional distributions. All the posts I have found are from years ago and the solutions don't work.
One common suggestion involves using a Return of Capital transaction with a negative amount to increase cost basis, but Quicken does not allow a negative amount. Another common suggestion involves using a Reinvest transaction with a dollar amount and 0 shares, but Quicken does not allow a 0 share value.
I've learned that Quicken will accept 0.000001 as the number of shares in a Reinvest transaction. And then I can use a Shares Removed transaction to fix the share balance without affecting the cost basis. I couldn't find this as a suggestion on the Quicken forums anywhere, but it does work. However, why is this ugly workaround required? The Reinvest transaction shows an insane price per share and then I have to add a dummy transaction to fix the share balance.
